What should 5 yr old DD wear for her birthday party in an indoor play area?

My daughter turns 5 next week Saturday (May 12th) and is having a birthday party with about 20 kids in an indoor play area, with bouncy castles, climbing frames and all. I've decided not to dress her up in any fancy expensive party dress since she might ruin it while playing, but I'm worried that if I dress her up in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, she may be a bit under-dressed. Being the birthday girl, she's supposed to be the star of the day. I'll appreciate suggestions on where I can get something playful but pretty enough to make her look like the birthday girl. Thanks

My dd (she is 15 now) wore a princess dress for her 6th birthday in an indoor play area. I have the photos!! It was fine and survived the day.

Jeans and a nice top. She's 5 and in a soft play, I'd say under-dressed doesn't really apply and she doesn't need fancy clothing to be the centre of attention.

lostinindia · 07/05/2012 19:44

What does she want to wear? Mine has always worn leggings and a smock top at soft play. Or leggings with a flared / ruffled denim skirt over the top and a t shirt.

You can get quite pretty jersey leggings and dress sets.

RightUpMyRue · 07/05/2012 19:45

T-shirt and leggings. She will get hot so no jumpers and she will need to move about like a lunatic (because she's 5 and it's her birthday party) so leggings are nice and flexible.

Pretty tunic and leggings. Much easier than jeans to play properly in .

monkeymoma · 07/05/2012 19:47

what she wants, take her shopping let her pick! it is her birthday!

Underdressed? 5 years old?

I would vote for a party dress, personally, if she likes dresses. It's her birthday, and my 5-y-old would feel left out wearing casuals to her own party. It doesn't have to be expensive, and lots of party dresses come in sensible fabrics and can double as summer dresses to get lots of wear out of it. I don't actually have experience of any clothing being wrecked in soft play by my 3!

I wouldn't do a dress for the indoor play area at 5 tbh.

She's the star of the day whether she wears leggings, a white dress or a diamond studded tiar for goodness sake!!

Just get a top more prettier than usual and leggings and jeans so that she can play comfortably.

trixymalixy · 07/05/2012 20:14

I would get something like this

herecomesthsun · 07/05/2012 20:15

I would go for smock or tunic and leggings, or nice top and shorts and tights.

upahill · 07/05/2012 20:19

I like trixy's suggestion.

trixymalixy · 07/05/2012 21:01

this is also quite pretty, although White leggings might get filthy.

ChablisLover · 07/05/2012 21:09

Leggings and a pretty top/ tunic.

Nottsmum2 · 07/05/2012 23:15

Thanks for your suggestions. I had bought a dress from debenhams today www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_232020632305_-1?breadcrumb=Home%7ESale%7EKids but I think Trixy's suggestion would do just fine as well. So I'll show her both options and let her make the choice.

DD wore an H&M Hello Kitty striped jersey dress for her 5th birthday party at a soft play place. It was what she wanted to wear and she looked lovely :)
