cowl neck sleeveless dress and fat arms..

I've just bought this to wear to a black tie evening event. I'm size 16 and my arms are quite fat.

I'll wear the dress again to a wedding with a cream jacket but that feels a bit weddingy for the other event.

Help! Do I wear a shrug or a tuxedo or something..? Has anyone seen anything good...?

Great dress. I am the same size with the same arm issue. I tend to favour the fine weave shrug with fitted sleeves. Either long sleeved or 3/4 length. A short sleeve widens me or cuts off at the widest part of my arms. Definitely not a tie type as it would spoil the front of the dress. A shrug that just covers shoulders and arms would be perfect IMO.

would something like this work? I was actually looking for something with more lace rather than jersey but couldn't find anything else via shop style.

I was about to say noo to a cowl neck but that dress is actually really nice.

I'm not too sure about a shrug with it though .. It might look a bit messy with all the drapey bits

Sometimes I think it's better to just style it out rather than go for an obvious I am trying to hide this bit of me.

Just wear it on it's own. Nobody is going to be looking at your arms they will all be pissed anyway!

I get what you are saying about brazening it out but they are FAT... Would something like this just be a complete disaster?

I know how you feel about your arms, I am the same. But, have you honestly ever looked at another woman and thought, "Look at the size of those arms!"I know I haven't.

Get them looking their best with scrub - moisturiser - fake tan and away you go. Any shrug-type thing is going to look wrong with that dress, which is lovely, BTW.

Tbh I think that dress needs to be worn on its own. Take it back and get something with sleeves or something that would go with a jacket/shrug.

Not even a tuxedo type thing? [whimpers hopefully as it's the only dress I've found that covers up my three children in four years belly and doesn't make me look like I've got number four on the way]

The dress is gorgeous and you really don't need to wear anything over it! No-one will be looking at your arms - they will be thinking how hot you look in that dress!

It's a fantastic dress, beautiful and flattering but you really can't wear a shrug with it, jacket is doubtful too IMHO. Neither will make your arms look smaller anyway.

Either style it out (as Labootin so nicely put it) of send it back and get something with sleeves

Agree that the dress needs to be worn alone and that if you really need sleeves you should swap it for something else. I'm also not sure that it sould go with a cream jacket tbh.

I'm sure we could find you another dress that would go with a tux jacket.

Flexitol will sort out those little bump thing on your arms, if that's the problem

I have another dress option (already bought) which is this. Will try the red dress on again tomorrow and see what the old arms look like in the light of day.

Dress is great. I think if you are worried about your arms you could use a pashmina type lacy shawl.

Perhaps if there are any Indian shops around you you could take the dress in and match the colour to something unusual that matches. Then once drinks are over and you have sat down you can put it over your chair.

That black dress is nice enough in a meh sort of way but not a patch on the verity. Even if it was being worn with The Worst Arms in the World. Which you don't have.

Remus I love that dress but it doesn't love me. I can't do jersey (the phase eight one is silk although it may not look like it in the photo).

MrsLettuce - good thinking about the flexitol. I might even try to find somewhere to get a body wrap on my arms (which I did for my wedding).

The Phase 8 one says it's polyester. If it really is silk, it's gorgeous.

Might be worth trying the Westwood one on, even if you think you can't do jersey. They are designed for curves and very flattering, though you'd probably want Spanx or suchlike under it.

Not over-fond of the black one tbh - it's a bit 80s female rock band - and I say that as somebody who is v fond of the 80s!

Do you know you are right Remus. I just checked and it is polyester, but feels like silk for the top layer, with a heavier lining that is more stretchy polyester. Good point about the Westwood one.
