mavornia · 06/05/2012 10:44

i have had dark patches on my knees that look like bruised areas for years now. i have 3 sons and spend a large part of every day on my knees bathing, wrestling, playing

i had assumed it was just because i have senstive skin but apparently there is a name for it - housewife's knees

anyone know how to get rid of them?!

cut lemon in half, sit with feet up and one lemon on each knee for half hour or so! works for my 'workman's' elbows, anyhow! Rub in lots of cream after

Soap and Glory's foot cream is great on my knees and elbows or Lucas' Pawpaw

OMG - I have this and didn't realise there was a name for it!! Lemons on the knees it is :))

apparently J-Lo lemons her elbows!

I have this too - one of those peculiar post-baby things that I've never been able to explain as I don't spend a lot of time on my knees.

Nothing seems to work but they are less noticeable in the summer with a bit of a tan.

I bought a lovely bowl for the bathroom and filled it with lemons to try to get rid of them - DH thought I had put the house up for sale without telling him Grin

you know the creams you get for dark spots / pigmentation? have no idea but worth a try??

4aminsomniac · 07/05/2012 07:49

You could also try rubbing in a paste made by crumbling aspirin with a little water, and leaving for 10 mins. Works for my feet

mildredm · 07/05/2012 08:03

I have this, will try lemons, but i use doublebase moisturiser. I got it for my son's exzema and it is the best moisturiser i've come across. It def helps. Is v exp over the counter or can get a bit cheaper via prscription.

mavornia · 07/05/2012 08:06

thanks everyone - off to get lemons today and 'll give the creams a go too. may be able to whip my knees out by summer...

I thought I was the only one with this! I also have patches on my ankles Sad.

I've been using Soap and Glory exfoliator and moisturiser but it hasn't really been helping. I usually use a gradual tanning cream in the summer, but that looks awful now cos it really sticks to he dark patches, and just doing around them look terrible too.

I also don't spend a lot of time on my knees!!!!!! Definitely a post-baby problem for me, though. Never reared its ugly head before.

I used to have the patches on my ankles too - I tried body brushing every morning and they went away.
