What shoes to get to go with a grey dress for wedding?

We have a wedding reception to go to in three weeks, its quite a posh do, I have a dark grey dress (not a drab grey, has a bit a a sheen/pewter look) now what shoes would you reccomend? I fear my old faithful black ones will make it look drab, so should I go for colour, something sparkly or maybe nude or even patterned?
Im at a total loss so any advice would be great!

Im very pastey and lily white if that makes a difference?

Could you link to the dress?

I'd go for colour myself but I'm sure that's not everyone's cup of tea. Do you have a bag in mind already? Oh, and is it a 'hat' wedding?

BlingLoving · 02/05/2012 11:00

I'd probably go for a colour myself too. Although if the weather is nice, I'd go for a colourful heeled sandal rather than a court shoe, I think. But depends on the dress and other accessories.

MrsLettuce · 02/05/2012 11:02

Mind you, these and a red bag would be lovely

memphis83 · 02/05/2012 11:09

I haven't even thought about a bag yet, oh dear I'm not very good at this Confused I can't link to dress I bought it in Feb for my birthday but never got to wear it as I hadn't lost enough weight and now its not on the site! its to the knee, those spot ones are lovely!
I won't be weating a hat

cheap and cheerful big bag

MadAboutHotChoc · 02/05/2012 11:37

If you are very pale with fair hair, avoid strong colours and go for softer colours such as coral, pink, turquoise and gold.

MrsLettuce · 02/05/2012 11:41

Ah, yes, missed the bit about you being pale. Red against your skin is probably a bad idea!

TeaTeaLotsOfTea · 02/05/2012 11:46

Pink and grey can be lovely and will work well with pale skin.

blondiep14 · 02/05/2012 11:48

Coral and grey look lovely together IMHO.

EllenRose · 02/05/2012 11:48

Avoid colours darker than the dress, there are some lovely pinker shades of nude shoes or obviously sandals (silver or whatever) would look nice or brighter colours if your skin tone can take it. I did get my shoes for a recent wedding (pinky nude suede) but had a hell of a job getting a bag to match so worth having a bit of a review of accessories as well if you need them.

memphis83 · 02/05/2012 12:17

Ooh I love coral, but never thought it would work with pale skin, I have light brown hair.
Thank you so much for all the replies, since becoming a mum I just look at my magazines and feel too old to pull off the fashions. I also had a drop in my confidence with clothes when I found a top in Next, went to order it and the average age on the reviews were 45-55! (im 29 and totally clueless!)

Know how you feel Memphis!

Coral is worth a try I'd say, I'm fair and some shades look really lovely. Maybe order a few pairs so you can try them on at home with the dress?

I quite like Next shoes and New Look too for bargains!

VeronicaSpeedwell · 02/05/2012 12:31

I came on just to say coral, I see I am in good company!

MadameChinLegs · 02/05/2012 12:37

Oooh, come on to add Coral. Another vote for that then.

If you can walk in high heels

memphis83 · 02/05/2012 12:58

Ive just been looking at those from next, I fear I may be venturing into shoe shops over the weekend, but so pleased im able to wear some coral! I can handle high shoes (I find wine numbs my feet after a few glasses) its just DH is my height so he wil be towered over!
So if im going into shops Next, New Look, Dune. What about Aldo? should I brave River Island and Topshop?
Thank you ladies for all your help, I haven't done any housework today Grin

I was going to say coral.
I wore this combo last year and had lots of compliments.
Can't find my shoes online now, they were from LK Bennet.
