What sort of tights do the young gels wear under shorts?

Dd1 aged 13 is going to a gig (small, and discreetly supervised by us in the background, btw) on Friday. Usually lives in tracksuit bottoms but has planned her outfit for the evening and wants to wear tights under shorts. She asked me if I'd buy the tights for her. But I've realised that today is the only chance I'll have to get to the shops, and I didn't ask her what sort. All I know is "black or purple".

Obviously, I'd prefer thick black wooly tights, school-stylee Grin. Would that be acceptable, or is there a particular type/pattern/thickness that's required? I don't know about this sort of thing Confused

nOT wooly!
And not patterned.

Plain black opaque ones are what my dd wears. She gets hers from sainsburys- after much market testing. But Marks do good ones took

They must not be shiny. Oh, and most of all, check that they are plain all the way up to the top. Some of them have a sort of change in opacity in the top bit of the leg and the pant-y bit. Not a good look with shorts!

Apart from that, anything will do!

Opaque, eh? I like opaque Grin. Was hoping you weren't going to say fishnet or something.

Right - not shiny, plain all the way up (I bet that'll be the hard part). I only wear jeans meself, so tights are a mystery to me as well. Will start in Sainsbury's. Thank you!

Dunno about the "young gels" but DW wears this style sometimes. The key thing is to avoid the sort of sort of support top bit that seeker has alluded to. Other than that, opaque or wooly seem to be the way to go. Primark are fine.
