False eyelashes... any tips for putting them on?

That's it really! It's the ones you have to glue (did see ones that you 'peel off' and apply but didn't buy those). Do I have to use tweezers to hold them... what position is easiest when applying them? Do I put mascara on before or after?

TIA!

Practice is key! Some people get it first time, but sometimes its a case of trial and error!

Which lashes did you get? Some are much easier to apply than others.

Looking down into a mirror is usually a good angle for most people. Measure the lashes against your eye, you may need to trim them to fit your eye better.
Apply glue and allow it to go tacky (about 20 seconds) bending the band of the lashes slightly may help to shape them to your eye.
I find sticking the middle first and then getting the two ends in place easiest. Some people prefer to stick the inner corner first and then the outer corner.

I use fingers but you may find tweezers easier, just a case of finding what works well for you.

Lastly don't be scared to keep at it if they aren't right to begin with!

Google Lisa Eldridge. She has a YouTube tutorial for applying false lashes.

Also mascara first is best as you can properly coat your own lashes which is harder to do once the falsies are on.

You can then apply another coat of mascara on top to blend your own lashes with the fake lashes but this isn't always necessary.

Thank you, therumour and pigsmightnever. They are eylure lashes and there was a discount if you buy 2 sets so if I muck it up, I have a reserve!

I will look at lisa eldridge. Thanks

Which number were they? 116's are quite good for learning I think!

Also if your careful with taking them off and give them a wipe with some eye make-up remover after, then you can use them a couple of times.

The absolute key thing is to wait for the glue to go tacky - wait after applying the glue to the lash strip until you think, 'oh ffs it will be all dried up by now' - then apply. If the glue is still wet, they will just slide around and not stick.

Mascara first, otherwise you will pull the lashes off with the wand - if you have dark lashes, you don't need mascara as well. If you have fair lashes, get them dyed and then you won't need mascara with the lashes Smile.

I put eyeliner pencil on first to 'colour in' the gaps between lashes, then lashes (if strip lash) then liquid liner to hide the join.

The cluster lashes are quite easy to use too - I use tweezers with those, but fingers with strip lashes. If you have a few practice goes you'll quickly get used to it and be able to sling them on in a second.

just. don't. please. ever

chenin · 29/04/2012 22:18

Don't please ever???! Ho hum...

Thanks everyone... I have two different sorts, one set very natural and the other a bit more, I will obviously have a bash with the more natural ones first! I think they are 151? I have tried to wear them before when I was a lot younger and the glue was useless and they were far harder to apply and I gave up.

they make you look stupid

chenin · 29/04/2012 22:19

Oh and yes, I have heard to wait 60 seconds or I will have problems. I have dark eyelashes anyway.

The glue that comes with them in the box is okay in my experience - but you do need to give it a minute or two to get tacky before it will work.

chenin · 29/04/2012 22:20

Me in particular, southeast?! Or just anyone...

generally sorry Grin they do look silly really, desist

chenin · 29/04/2012 22:26

Well, I think if you can put on natural understated ones you wouldn't even know, so not sure on the silly thing but I will report back to you SEastra and probably agree when I do have a go! Wink

If your having trouble with the glue buy a tube of kryolan online, it's brilliant stuff! Also worth remembering you only need a teeny tiny bit of glue, much less than you think you might need.
