help me choose a colour

this might be a barmy idea but it seemed to work for autumn / winter . my clothes were more or less all crap and dh gave me some money fro xmas , so i bought all new . I didnt have tons of money so my new wardrobe had to be minimalist .
i bought everything in navy and burgundy , some plain , some patterns and the odd bit of white and beige to break it up. everything , including socks , scarves and jewellery.
sounds boring but found it really good , as i was able to make some good outfits really easily , layering things up.

i was thinking of doing the same again but for a spring / summer wardobe . i think i will use navy again as i mostly like dark jeans on the bottom.
although im not sure if i can make this work for summery stuff.

i know everything goes with navy , but , in your opinion , what looks the most stylish / nice coupled with navy .

i am very pale with blonde hair
any suggestions for my capsule wardrobe ?? !!

ooh what a great idea!

I like red with navy but lots of things go with it as you say.

Pink, yellow, beige, white, cream,

Will find some links for you.

LittlePandaBear · 29/04/2012 20:24

There is loads of navy in the shops at the moment! Orange/coral colours loo good and freshen it up for summer (if we ever get any sun!)

CobOnTheCorn · 29/04/2012 20:24

I like turquoise with navy, especially in the summer.

Collision · 29/04/2012 20:26

Do you work?

Are you a SAHM?

I need details of which sort of clothes you will need and a budget.

omydarlin · 29/04/2012 20:29

Yes turquoise or coral!

Minimammoth · 29/04/2012 20:30

I think it depends a lot on your skin colour. Do you have a yellow skin tone or are you more cool. If you are cool. Then coral, orange etc will look great on you. If you easily tan you would be better with blues or blue toned pinks.turquise looks good on everyone.

mrsebojones · 29/04/2012 20:35

Agree Turquoise or coral.
I do largely similar to you with my wardrobe. I stick to navy and shades of blue, along with accents of white and neutrals. I find that it does mean it's easier to mix and match and I feel that I wear most of my wardrobe this way.

i only do a few hours out at work a week , cleaning peoples houses so old scruffs for that . Trying to make extra cash at home also with ebay , so busy at home with that part of the week. the rest of the time , i am shopping , running errands etc. my boys are now both teens.

i go for fairly casual but do like some smarter stuff . would probably look in shops like fat face , joules , monsoon , esprit .
dont have loads to spend but would rather buy a few good quality things that i love than stuff on a whim in primark or H & M which is what i always did before !

so far i have a pair of levis curve jeans in dark denim , 2 navy striped t.shirts from french connection and a navy cardigan from joules .
oh and this [[

i am really pale (i am actually anemic which is probably why !) dont tan just burn.
hair is natural ( thinking of having highlights ) long straight dark blonde. pale colours seem to make me look too pasty ( i think)
coral and turquoise , yes i like both , thanks , not sure which i look better in

Beige/tan shades work well with navy. If that's too pale for you it might work as bottom half, away from your face, with a navy top or jumper - solid navy or striped. I always think beige trousers are very smart if cut right. A crop shape in this colour would be good for summer and goes with most stuff - white tops, navy, navy/pattern or stripe etc.

Banana Republic do some nice shapes but most chains will have some trousers in this colour, it's a good staple.

thriftychic · 29/04/2012 21:16

yes good idea , i will try some beige . would need to find a flattering pair of trousers as although im a size 10 i do have quite a big backside! quite noticeable at 5ft 1!

Can I just say that turquoise does NOT suit everyone, it makes me look like I'm really ill! I'm dark though, with pale yellow-undertoned skin.

I like navy and beige and white all worn together, I think it looks like you're really well put together. Not sure I'd have the discpline to restrict myself to just 2 or 3 colours when shopping though, it would kill me!

justtryingtodomybest · 29/04/2012 21:20

I love that mac!

I really like navy too - much more flattering than black. I like turquoise with navy and also bright pink. Red is nice too but you might not want to end up looking too nautical!

White and beige will look smart too. Or for something a bit dressier than silvery grey would be nice.

Minimammoth · 29/04/2012 22:19

Thrifty. Hold the colour up to your face. Try a pink. Look for a blue toned pink and a coral. See which looks best. Choose colours that have a blue or yellow base. This does work. If you are pale and bluish skin tone then black and white will not do you any favours , choose cream or brown instead. Every colour will have an element of blue or yellow in it , even red. Sorry for making it complicated but once you know what works it will save a lot of time and money and you will always look great.

thriftychic · 29/04/2012 22:40

ah right , thanks mini. well i do know that i dont suit yellow much. i can wear a very pale lemon but although i like other yellows like mustard etc they look wrong on me .
so , what would be a blue toned pink ?
i quite like this www.monsoon.co.uk/marcy-top/invt/12311925/&bklist=icat,5,shop,women,womentops,daytops

I would say that is a warm pink with some yellow in it. I have just had a quick look and it seems to me that all the monsoon stuff is based on coral. I would call that a Spring palette. Do you have blue eyes too. If so I bet all of that monsoon stuff would look good , and navy def. better than black.

Minimammoth · 29/04/2012 23:04

This is a bluey pink

thriftychic · 29/04/2012 23:21

yes , i have blue eyes . so, you reckon better with the monsoon pink than the joules ?
im quite interested in all this colour stuff , thanks for your help ! Smile

People who are pale with dark hair tend to look better in blue shades. Like duchess of cabridge, sam cam. Both I would say could take, fuschia pinks, sweet pea colour etc. This would be a summer palette.
Colour me beautiful or House, of Colour both do colour consultation. I am not a rep. honest, but had a consult with House of Colour years ago and I still go by their advice, it makes clothes shopping so much easier and everything always goes together. Well worth the fee. It's nothing to do with fashion though, so some seasons you can't find anything, cos its not 'in'

Minimammoth · 30/04/2012 07:13

Thrifty, there is a utube clip from colour me beautiful. Sorry don't know how to link it.

thriftychic · 30/04/2012 13:25

will have a look Smile
