Budget self tanning lotions

I know St Tropez is meant to be good but I don't have the budget for that....

I have been using a bottle of Johnsons holiday skin in normal to fair, and while it was cheap and on offer when I bought it,its only ok.
I find it a little orangey, and a bit thick, smelly and greasy when applied.

It'll do the job,but has anyone got any better, but above all else, cheap, suggestions?

Friend of mine recommended Superdrug own brand mousse. I've yet to try it but she always looks nicely sun kissed (and not orange!)

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 29/04/2012 14:54

I can't seem to see that on the website. Thanks for the suggestion though,Mombojombo - perhaps I'll pop in store next week and take a look.

St moritz. I love it. Have some St tropez but prefer the colour and smell of the st moritz. Get it from cheapy pound shops. apply with a fake tan mit.

Eliza22 · 29/04/2012 15:56

Seconding the St Moritz. I decanted mine into an old St Tropez mousse container as the St Moritz leaked a bit. It smells fine.... Better than some of the expensive brands and it gives a good colour. Application mitt is a must. I buy the DARK mousse. Use it once a week and moisturise well every day. That way it lasts.

You really do have to exfoliate well before a next application, though.

Eliza22 · 29/04/2012 15:57

Oh, it's £2.99 at Savers or Home Bargains.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 29/04/2012 16:28

I shall def look about for the St Moritz. I had never even heard of fake tan mitts....

Another st moritz fan. I've just used the last of the st tropez foam but the colour of the st moritz is much nicer.

curiositykilledthekat · 29/04/2012 18:08

Primark is brilliant. Better than St Tropez IMO. I think its about 1.50

belledejour · 29/04/2012 22:41

I think Dove is good. Medium-Dark when I'm on holiday, Light-Medium the rest of the time.

UnrequitedSkink · 29/04/2012 23:13

Does it streak if you go in swimming pools? I read a thread on here earlier that said you should avoid if you've had a spray tan...was wondering how true that was? And is it the same with self-tan? And where can I get a tan mitt?!

RockChick1984 · 30/04/2012 09:05

I got st moritz for 2.99 and a tab mitt for 99p both from home bargains and it's fantastic! I'm rubbish at applying fake tab and I'm very pale so everything usually looks orange on me (even when I went and had a proper spray tab done!). This stuff is brilliant, and if I can apply without it streaking, anyone can Grin

TooEasilyTempted · 30/04/2012 10:14

Another vote for St Moritz. I actually abandoned a half used bottle of St Tropez in favour of the St Moritz.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/04/2012 11:09

Skink, I dont think that a face tan will streak in a pool once it's set but the chlorine will bleach it out of your skin.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/04/2012 11:10

posted too soon.

You can use sally hansen airbrush legs or similar on your legs if it always comes out paler on your legs.

My legs always come out paler. Cos I'm weird like that.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 30/04/2012 14:09

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.Seems there's plenty of stuff out there that's cheap and works!

Can i just ask, ive got a bottle of that st moritz that i got last summer, around July time, but i never got round to using it! i'm off on hols this october, would it be okay to use this bottle i got or should i just chuck it & get a new one? i don't know what shelf life these have and haven't used fake tan for ages!

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/05/2012 11:28

I'd do a patch test. It might have gone off.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 01/05/2012 16:46

If you haven't opened it I would have thought it'd be fine.

Everything we buy sits around in warehouses for an age,I'll bet!
