Do you think Uggs are worth the money?

Wrong time of year aside, I saw some Uggs in town yesterday and picked one up expecting it to be priced circa £125. How naive was I - they were over £200!

I mean they're nice (if your a fan), but 200 quid nice???

Discuss!

I bought some - leather rather than suede - for £100 in TK Maxx 5 years ago and wear them in all but the hottest weather. They're great with jeans, leggings and dresses. They look even better with age. Without a doubt my best footwear buy.

PavlovtheCat · 29/04/2012 07:14

god no! i see a lot of women wearing them squished on one side of the heel badly, clearly not fitting well, they look sloppy and cheap after a while like cheap slipper boots worn out in the wet.

Primark do/did some i think, saw in the window, and sometimes when I see people wearing them when they do that thing with the heel, I peer to see if they are cheapo ones or the original Uggs as I honestly cant tell the difference on first glance. Not really what you want from a £200 pair of boots.

FlatCapAndAWhippet · 29/04/2012 07:16

Mine are supposed to be £275 (!!), biker boots type with the buckles, harder wearing than the norm. Family connection, clothes shop Wink so I paid around half of that.

Never had a pair before, dont particularly like the look of them but through two winters now, I've never had them off my feet, literally. They are so snug, so easy, so forgiving.

But jeez, flippin expensive!

bigpants103 · 29/04/2012 07:22

I would never buy full price so wait for House of Frasers 25% offf event and get them for about £120. I wear mine non stop inside and outside of the house and LOVE them. So easy to get on and SO warm. I REFUSE to pay more than £200 so them though.

faustina · 29/04/2012 07:57

yes they are because they last forever, but you can always find them cheaper if you look around. I've never found a cheaper brand that was as good quality. Haven't tried celtic sheepskin though, which are meant to be as good

chezchaos · 29/04/2012 08:22

To clarify, I wouldn't buy the slouchy ones, I love the rigid ones with the furry tops :)

SocialButterfly · 29/04/2012 08:56

The ones where women are walking with them all squished throne side are the cheap ones that have no support on the heel. You will never see someone in a proper pair of uggs with the heel folded over - which does look awful.

I have a real pair of uggs and a fake pair and you can totally tell the difference, I think they are worth the money.

ifancyashandy · 29/04/2012 09:12

kicking 5 pairs under the bed

Worth the money? Nah!! Grin

bishboschone · 29/04/2012 09:20

Yes... I have 3 pairs . My first pair I have had for 5 years and still going strong . Cheap ones flop to the side not real ones !

sairygamp · 29/04/2012 09:21

I got pair in a charity shop - they were slightly worn but actually looked fine, originally £40, half price sale, then I bargained down to £15 Grin They are warm they look good and I love them!! Do I win??

anniewoo · 29/04/2012 09:27

If you have flat feet they are too flat.

pickledparsnip · 29/04/2012 09:32

I've seen lots of people wearing real Uggs where the heels are squished to one side! Looks awful.

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 29/04/2012 09:38

Yes I think they're definitely worth the money. I buy the ones that come up mid calf length, they are £170 and they last and last. The previous pair I had I wore for 3 autums/winters/springs probably near enough every day so the price per wear is tiny.

Like SocialButterfly said you really can tell the difference between real Uggs and fakes; the sole on real uggs barely wears down at all.

Mombojombo · 29/04/2012 09:39

I would never never never pay full price for them, but set up a search on eBay, watched and watched for a fortnight, and eventually got a brand spanking new pair (real, authentic) for £27. They're definitely worth that!

linziluv · 29/04/2012 09:45

pickledparsnip they are probs the "real" fake uggs, most people wouldn't know the difference....I can tell a mile off as the ugg label is stitched too far up.
Proper, real uggs will not squish to one side.
Uggs?? They're ok I suppose........
[chucks 5 pairs in shoe cupboard!!]

hazelnutlatte · 29/04/2012 09:51

I have 2 pairs, and I live in them for 3/4 of the year so would say they are worth the money. My black mid calf uggs are at least 5 years old, and the heels are not squished at all, and still look like new. I also have some grey uggs that look like a pair of thick grey argyle socks. My dp reckoned they wouldn't last 5 minutes but I have worn them in all weathers for 3 years and again, they still look like new.
Don't pay full price though, I got the first pair with a 20% off code at Asos, and the second were £80 from amazon (I don't think they were a popular style which is why they were selling them cheap)
Someone on another thread suggested uggs were chavvy the other day, I think as long as you are not wearing them with a pink velour tracksuit they are fine!

linziluv · 29/04/2012 10:26

Confused @ pink velour track suit! :)

QuickLookBusy · 29/04/2012 10:33

I have the Kensington uggs. They are much timer than normal ones and I'm now on my second winter with them. They are bloody fantastic and keep me warm on a cold day. I don't care if other people don't like them or think they're chavy. I'm warm and that's all that matters.

QuickLookBusy · 29/04/2012 10:34

That should be firmer

ChippyMinton · 29/04/2012 10:38

I have the belvue ones with a low heel and wear them a lot, all year round. Would definitely buy another pair if this pair ever wear out (unlikely)

RobinSparkles · 29/04/2012 10:39

Definitely! I've has mine for nearly two years. DH bought me them for my birthday when I was pregnant as I didn't want to risk an icy winter in my heeled boots. I've worn them in rain, wind, hail and thick snow and they're still going strong. I walk loads and wear them pretty much every day on the school run. They're so warm and you don't get that frozen toes feeling when it's frosty.

They're not the most attractive shoes, I'll admit, but they're warm and easy to walk in. You need to protect them with a suede protector though, otherwise water will get through. If you protect them they stay water proof. The winter, in which I was pg, was a really bad one where everyone got lots of snow. My feet where lovely and warm and dry!

I think it's only the fake ones that "collapse". Mine certainly haven't!

LaurieFairyCake · 29/04/2012 10:39

I have 1 pair and they're not as nice as my Celtic Sheepskin ones but they're still nice. The sole and heel on the Celtics are stronger I think.

Better value and made in Britain too Smile

gregssausageroll · 29/04/2012 10:40

To those saying the heel flops to one side those are not real uggs. Real uggs don't do that and will last years if looked after.

WhippingGirl · 29/04/2012 10:40

the real ones are worth the money as they last years and if you are an ugg fan you tend to wear them almost daily. i bought some when i had dd because i knew i wouldnt have to dress up for a long time and they would be worth having. i wear them year round. i paid £170 i think in office because they had a tiny mark and i demanded a discount from the manager.
i bought some 'real' ones off ebay in the past - they look great at first but then you can tell they are fake. theres a fakery guide on ebay i swear by to spot fakes. mine looked perfect but you could pull the outer and the liner apart -obv not realy sheepskin. otherwise they were perfect copies.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/04/2012 10:43

The fake ones are made in china, they skin dogs alive to get the fur and then ship the fur to Austrailia and then onto the UK when they have made the boots.

I think if they do that it means they can say made in austrailia or somesuch reason.

I was so upset when I read the article on it I set up a DD to Animals in Asia
