Do you think Uggs are worth the money?

Wrong time of year aside, I saw some Uggs in town yesterday and picked one up expecting it to be priced circa £125. How naive was I - they were over £200!

I mean they're nice (if your a fan), but 200 quid nice???

Discuss!

I have never bought at full price but they have definately been worth the price I have paid! (I have three pairs)

suburbandream · 29/04/2012 16:36

What Ryoko said (although I'm not sure if fugly is a typo Grin)

Longdistance · 29/04/2012 16:41

Real Uggs should not squish 2 the side, they must be fake, and bought from the internet from a dodgy seller, who sells them 4 less stating they are real.
A tell tale sign is when there's a label stating made in China, which funnily enough, here in Oz I have seen. They are not made in China, but here in Oz Melbourne I think
I actually rarely see the Aussies wearing them, but it has only just turned Autumn.

KatieScarlett2833 · 29/04/2012 16:43

2 pairs of Kensingtons and others here

I wear them most days, except to work.

They are still immaculate.

A snip at £250 each

Real ones are definitely worth the money. To echo previous comments if the heel folds down or to one side they are fake. Real ones have holograms on the box now and a certain type of label. Also the sheepskin will not 'detach' from the outer but it will on a lot of fakes. I have 4 pairs, two for indoors (classics) that I wear everyday and have lasted years, a pair with toe caps and heavy duty soles for outside and a pair with heels - see link.

I suffer really badly with chilblains in winter and UGGS are the only boots that cut it for me in cold weather.
Bicester village outlet shop is always worth visiting for discounts........

sairygamp · 29/04/2012 17:43

Can we havwe some clarification then - are the real ones made in china, or Australia?

shopafrolic · 29/04/2012 17:47

Have just removed my boot - my Classic short boots are made in Vietnam - bought from official UGG store in Covent Garden...........Heavy duty ones are made in China so I think it varies.

sairygamp · 29/04/2012 17:50

Ah right. Thanks! So confusing all this boot malarky!

Hulababy · 29/04/2012 17:51

Proper Uggs yes - ime they don't slop over, the heels keep the feet in place and the sides don't sag. That's how you can tell the difference ime.

I have a couple of pairs, ome are about 3 years old now and they've had a lot of wear, but still stand up straight even when not worn, and have kept their shape at the bottom completely.

mrsebojones · 29/04/2012 17:55

I have a pair from Just Sheepskin. They have seen me through 2 winters and show little sign of wear. They have completely kept their shape. Think they were around £99. So half the price of Uggs.

Vessel · 29/04/2012 17:57

Uggs good. Ugg-style bad... because of the squishy heel thing.

systemlakeland · 29/04/2018 19:06

They are rather out of fashion, I think. Wouldn't say no to a pair. At my age, I just want to keep warm!

PrimalLass · 29/04/2018 19:42

They are worth every penny. I don't care if they are in fashion. The real ones don't collapse to one side. Mine last at least two winters and I wear them a lot (work from home so just bod between the house and the kids' activities - outside a lot).

PrimalLass · 29/04/2018 19:50

I've never paid anything near full price. My last 'classics' are the brown leather ones. I posted on here as they were such a bargain (£85, from an approved stockist), and got a total pasting from people (who were not asked) telling me they are hideous. I care not, with my warm feet.

All my non-'Ugg' boots are from Ugg too - they just fit me and the quality is great.

Looking for a black pair for next winter but haven't seen any bargains yet.

goose1964 · 29/04/2018 20:04

I had a pair of Emus which cost £40 from Amazon,it was the time they changed logo so obviously got rid of old stock. They lasted about 5 winters before the upper and sole parted company

BlueEyedWonder · 29/04/2018 20:18

Perhaps one of the reasons they’re considered out of fashion now is because this thread is from 2012?!

PrimalLass · 29/04/2018 23:34

Oops so it is. I nearly bought another pair tonight because of it though so I don't care Grin

Mowershoed · 30/04/2018 00:06

Yes and no.

I full price bought the boots twice.

in my early 20’s I got knee length chocolate brown ones and wore them to death for years. With miniskirts and bare legs Grin

Well worth the price, “cost per wear” virtually zero.

I play a lot of sports and commute by public transport/walking so good flat footwear is VERY important to me.

I was Ugg free for a year or so. I then got a shorter grey pair which I ended up dying dark brown.

I didn’t find the second pair as versatile as the first? Maybe it was a lifestyle thing, I think as my style changed (and I started swapping the miniskirts for smart dark jeans) I didn’t find they went with everything? I started liking a more classic/ figure flattering look and I didn’t think Uggs really fit that look.

For the Ugg shoe money, I got a few pairs of really smart trainers, one pair of Ugg similar brand all from TK max for £30ish each and some comfortable flat knee length brown boots.

This took more time to choose and purchase, but seems to work a lot better for my lifestyle and wardrobe.
Plus the waterproofing became an issue as I live in a rainy city.

Loonoon · 30/04/2018 00:26

I have loads of pairs and find they last pretty much forever. I binned one pair when I trod on a nail which punctured the sole and another pair when the leather wore out above my big toenail but that's just two pairs out of about 15-20 pairs over the last 15 years or so. I have never, ever, ever paid full UK price for them though - I pick them up at outlet centres in the U.K or buy them in America where they are cheaper. And they have never trodden down either, if you buy the right fit the heel is quite supportive and holds up well.

Much as I have loved them I probably won't buy anymore now. Fashions are changing and so is my life style. As I move into middle age I find I am walking more and more rather than driving and UGGs just don't have enough arch support for walking 5+ miles a day.

RIP my lovely UGGs, hello to Skechers and Fitflops, both very nice and comfy but not the hug for the feet you get from UGGs.

BedtimeTea · 30/04/2018 00:36

I did see a woman wearing pink uggs, pink jeans and a pink winter coat. She looked like a 4 year old ready for bed!
I don't know if uggs are worth 200, but probably are if they last as long as people are saying.

echt · 30/04/2018 07:44

I wear FUggs, i.e. fake Uggs, but good quality. However I only wear them as slippers, never outside, as is common in Australia.

It's a marker in the year: daylight savings means check the smoke alarms and put the ceiling fans on summer/winter setting. The putting on of FUggs means winter is coming. This last hasn't happened yet as we're enjoying a fabulously warm autumn.

I digress. :o

systemlakeland · 30/04/2018 09:11

However I only wear them as slippers

Me too! They keep my lower leg warm. I find slippers just aren't warm enough for me. Wish I could wear them outside, but as you say that's really only for Oz. I have Dunlop Blizzard furry-inside wellies for outdoors Smile

wishingiwaslucky47 · 30/04/2018 14:05

I’ve never known genuine UGGS to flop to the side.

I’ve got a pair, I love them, I’ve had them for 10 years this Christmas and they look great. No idea how much they were as they were a gift.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 30/04/2018 20:01

I e had a few that haven't lasted forever but you will get a few years out of them.
I have brown Sutters now they were discounted on mandm direct down to £125. Never pay full price!
I wouldn't wear cheap ones ugh
