Do you think Uggs are worth the money?

Wrong time of year aside, I saw some Uggs in town yesterday and picked one up expecting it to be priced circa £125. How naive was I - they were over £200!

I mean they're nice (if your a fan), but 200 quid nice???

yeah IMO they are worth the money, as long as they are real and not fakes

if you have a hunt about online you should be able to get some slightly cheaper than on the high street though

i think people either love them or hate them tbh

fluffiphlox · 29/04/2012 10:45

I think even the genuine ones make people's feet look like they are wearing the boots I used to have for my Sindy doll. I am very old, obviously and generally all for comfort in the foot department but I always think these are hideous, though clearly popular.

AfishhCalledElvira · 29/04/2012 10:48

I have Emus and prefer them to uggs. They have been worn daily for 2 winters now and show no signs if ageing....and I prefer the styling to uggs as well. I got mine off Amazon and they were significantly cheaper than uggs too Smile

RobinSparkles · 29/04/2012 10:49

All uggs are made in China!

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/04/2012 10:52

Yes, but real ones are sheepskin not dogs.

I dont care who makes them as long as the animal wasnt skinned alive. I'm funny like that.

RobinSparkles · 29/04/2012 10:53

If they say Made In Australia or New Zealand (unless they are more than 3 years old) then they are fake.

cantpooinpeace · 29/04/2012 10:53

I bought some Whooga Ugg boots as couldn't believe how much it was for a new pair of Uggs these days - I've had my old pair for years.
So my Whooga's look exactly the same, come with a good guarantee and so far seem to be of same quality.
Uggs were £100 more - I'd expect magic boots for that much more :)

lollystix · 29/04/2012 10:54

YES - I'm with Flatcap on this one. I got some on ebay which had been worn once - they were kensington's for £100 down from the £250 in the shops. I swear I never took them off my feet (in scotland) apart from when I went to bed for the whole Autumn/winter/early spring. £100 for 6 months solid cosy wear is good value. Try to get on gumtree or something

boringnamechange · 29/04/2012 11:06

I love my uggs. Got them in January and have probably worn them every day either in house or out and they still look like I just bought them. So comfy and as I usually make shoes last years I know these were a good investment.

Littlemissimpatient · 29/04/2012 11:11

Yes def worth the money. Mine were £200 2 years ago and the best buy I have ever bought!
It's not cost effective to buy the cheaper versions.

carrielou2007 · 29/04/2012 11:20

I've always thought they looked terrible but sucumbed when John Lewis did a price match just after I went back to work after mat leave. I walk a lot (normally 4 miles a day) when not at work and I wore them all winter of 2010 though not in the snow as I just slipped, all winter/spring 2011 and all winter 2011/2012.

They are now literally falling to pieces, the soles have worn down at the sides, worn through almost but were worth every penny and super warm toasty toes. When on mat leave wirh dd I used to weaar trainers and used to wear them out after a few months from all the walking! They are chesnut mid ones?? Knowing John Lewis, they would prob change them Grin

FIFIBEBE · 29/04/2012 11:26

I have the brown Belle Vue ones too which are leather and have a thick sole. Just this morning I was looking at them and thinking what amazing value they were. I think they were £220.00 2 years ago, I have worn them loads and they look great. Warm and dry. Biscester Village sell them for £160 and I am tempted to get another colour.

perceptionreality · 29/04/2012 11:31

No, I don't think they are worth it. And they are comfortable but not stylish imo.

Chiefwitchfromdownsouth · 29/04/2012 11:34

Uggs are by far the ugliest pieces of footwear I have come across in a long time and I wouldn't spend a penny on them

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 29/04/2012 11:39

I've got some real ones and they've squished to the side Sad. I just have an uncanny ability to wreck shoes though. I have had my gait analysed for running though and apparently I over-pronate LOADS so it is probably my fault. Sad

Boothie · 29/04/2012 11:39

I bought some real ugg boots and to be quite honest i think they are rubbish for the price you pay. I have cheaper versions in the past that look and feel better. Im not a fan. Hmm

HandMadeTail · 29/04/2012 11:45

When I was growing up, (and I am not young) my mother, (who is far from stylish) wore them to hang out the washing, in her chenille dressing gown and nightie.

I am therefore Confused when people think they are in anyway attractive.

(I have bought some for my DD, as all her friends have them. Perhaps DM was just well ahead of her time? Hmm )

BrandyAlexander · 29/04/2012 11:49

I heart mine. Wear them a lot at the weekends. Not squished at all. Thinking of getting another pair.

landofsoapandglory · 29/04/2012 12:03

I love mine. Dh bought me them 3 winters ago, they have hardly been off my feet and still have loads of wear left in them. The sole doesn't look like it has been walked on really!

I want a different coloured pair now, and have my eye on a pair of Celtics that seem to be permenantly out of stock. I shall probably buy another pair before next winter, I should think!

thiswaytothebeach · 29/04/2012 12:13

ok mine are not ugg boots they are emu boots 50p from a boot fair and they are lovely thick and warm ``````wear them as slippers in my caravan

sairygamp · 29/04/2012 14:34

Just looked, in a paranoid manner, at mine to check they are 'real' Made In China and no flopping at the heel..phew Grin, imagine if I'd spent £15 on fakes

Springsister · 29/04/2012 14:46

Good thread. I've always been tempted by uggs but price is eyewatering.

Always wondered do you wear socks with uggs, or not?

ragged · 29/04/2012 14:53

I am after some warm brown waterproof boots for next winter. Why would I choose Uggs over any others, and are they really robust in the rain? Shop told me that only the ones that cost £300 were any good any rain.

blondiedollface · 29/04/2012 15:11

Have always had Uggs, still got my first pair from 7 years ago and they are in fine condition.. The only pair I've ever wrecked are a pair that I wore every day working a ski season! But they were 2 years old when I went out so had no qualms about value for money...

I still use them to hang the washing out/walk the dog/gardening as they are so comfy and warm and unless it's really wet (like right now) they're fine!!

Will definitely hide the 6 pairs in the wardrobe next time I have guests

But I've also had Emu's and found the sole much sturdier, but less comfortable, although price wise they are much more reasonable I would agree!

Ryoko · 29/04/2012 16:17

Uggs are the most fugly awful things since Crocs.

I wouldn't buy a pair even if they where in the pound shop.
