*stylish* waterproofs?

Can anyone rec a stylish waterproof coat?
I have yet to find something which genuinely keeps the rain out and fits what I laughably call My Style.
Which is - knee length; nipped in at the waist and flaring out over The Danger Area - kind of 40s/50s.
I can't do duffles (stylish as they are, on the right person), or Black's walking attire. I will do a parka at a pinch if it's the right one.

I am in love with that Aigle trench. WANT.

I posted this in a separate post but no replies... Are Merrell jackets true to size, do I need to size up if I want layers underneath? and what is the hood like? does it cover properly or does it come up to hairline? Anyone?

Littlepumpkinpie · 27/04/2012 13:02

Well yesterday I purchased this www.trespass.co.uk/womens-jilly-01971

Its not very warm no insulation added.Today the rains not so heavy so I cannot test how good it will be in a downpour. The arms were very baggy and have daft velcro on the cuffs but the lining was nice so because my arms are short I turned them back. Have you seen the Jack Wolfskin 5th avenue jacket that looks good too.

NagooIsBuildingAnArk · 27/04/2012 13:28

I have a Haven. It's snug if I want a thick cardi under, but it's warm enough that I don't need one. The hood is very good, I don't get wet.

I thought the arms were short, but I'm used to it now and they are not short at all. I think I had a stupid bench coat before this with ridiculously long arms.

LittlePumpkinPie that looks good, but no hood?

My wakefield arrived today, really pleased with it. I'm 5'9'' and a size 14 and the 14 fits perfectly with a couple of light layers under it; not sure if a bulky jumper would fit, but then because it's insulated, you probably wouldn't need one. Rather randomly got a free 'Sports direct' giant mug in the parcel with it. Smile Thanks for the heads up Nagoo.

Just to say thank you to all - went to our local huge outdoorsy place- they had one Wakefield left in the whole shop - checked size (mine); checked colour (plum - perfect); wore it for what felt like 5 hours in rain - dry as a bone. All your fault. My only complaint - I didn't get the insulated, and it's not terribly warm (and a bit too snug to slip a big jumper under it). But I may save up for the insulated.
Let's go Wakefield-tastic :-)

good for you outforthecount! how did the sizing for height work?

NagooIsBuildingAnArk · 03/05/2012 14:09

I got a wakefield too. I cracked and got it for £76 in the red. I didn't realise until it came that I now match my pushchair Blush

I am 5ft6 and it's quite long, but not ridiculously so. It seems a bit bigger than the Haven, so I can get a jumper under it (I got insulated). The sleeves seem a bit longer than the Haven too, it fits well.

It's very nice :)

OutfortheCount · 03/05/2012 22:40

Maggie - it was perfect for me, as I like the knee-length-coat over-little skirt look (v. effective tool for the short pear). I think it makes me look taller/slimmer than a bum-length thingie. HTH
Nagoo - good girl. What sort of red is the red? I'm thinking of red for my winter Wakefield- upgrade.

Hello. I'm considering the Merrell Wakefield (not insulated) and wondering what the fabric is like. I have the Merrell Miette which is great but the fabric makes a crinkle noise (like scrunching cellophane paper in your hands). Does the wakefield also do this?

Appreciate your feedback :)

Thank you.
