Right. I am bored.

I wear jeans every day.

Tshirts. When going somewhere smart, a fitted shirt/blouse or something like this

I feel frumpy and boring. Partly cause I have put on so much weight, I have to admit.

So today, I turned over a new leaf. I joined a gym, had my hair cut and coloured and realised I need a new style. But I don't know what.

Something more quirky and modern.

Any ideas?

I changed my entire style back in February and it was a drastic change but I feel so much better, I feel younger more confident and I feel like me not just the dd's mum. I follow a blog and look at her daily clothes posts and adapt them for my shape/style and budget. I've never felt better since taking the plunge.

MmeLindor. · 25/04/2012 23:01

I like that jacket. I think that is the kind of thing I want - not so classic that I look like an extra from a Ralph Lauren ad, but stylish and chic.

No no no to any kind of corsetry, holdmein, spanx type stuff. I tried them and they make me nauseous. I iwill have to live with my lumps and bumps till the gym pays off a bit.

MmeLindor it's not a conventional style blog so probably not of interest to anyone else on this thread but it really has given me the confidence to think that I don't care what anyone says to me about how I look.

I'm a 30year old mum of 4 and if they want to take the piss they can but I feel great in myself and have oodles more confidence. I've always been tattooed, pierced etc but toned it down and became mumsy after having the kids and now I'm letting me come out again.

The blog. Me in the dress.

BigBirdsFriend · 25/04/2012 23:22

Me too me too!

Too fat, 1 month away from 40, horrible hair, no style any more at all.
I too have not followed a style blog, I think I need to!
I used to look pretty good, but there isn't any flirting anymore
:(

PuffPants · 25/04/2012 23:22

My problem is shoes. I don't get much joy from buying them and so I have very few pairs. I see dresses and skirts and think they look fab but have no idea what shoes I would wear and so I stick to jeans and tops.

I worry about scarves. Fear they would add bulk to an already sizeable chest.

Thank you BigBirdsFriend Blush

LimeLeafLizard · 25/04/2012 23:28

Ooh I badly need to mark my place on this thread and steal all the good ideas.

MmeLindor. · 25/04/2012 23:30

Great dress, Stella. And I love that blog. It is not at all my style, but I like the Being Individual vibe of it.

I have a wonderful lilac silk pashmina that I bought at a market in France last winter. It is the first purple thing that I have even bought, having always maintained that purple is my anti-colour. A style consultant told me that I was totally wrong and that lilacs and light blues would work really well so I bought it.

I wear it all the time and I love it. I do think that one really good accessory can life a whole outfit.

Have just discovered that I have no sportswear, so that is first on the list before I have my first session at the gym. It must all be in storage.

Can I make another suggestion? Don't change your style just do your style better?

I live in jeans and tops as well, I keep thinking ooo I should break out and do dresses/skirts etc, I could probably (maybe) pull them off. But you know what, my style is my style for a reason it's what I feel comfortable and confident in (I know you are lacking in this bit atm). So instead of changing the style of what I wore I just changed the quality (and fit) of the clothes.

For example, I had a brown hoodie from Tesco, I now have a brown cashmere hoodie from Brora (sale and christmas money).
I make sure my JEANS FIT, they are not baggy round the bottom or too loose.
My t-shirts are my size and suit my shape.
The colours I wear make me look healthy.
If you have bigger breasts, for the LOVE OF GOD please make sure you are fitted properly.

I would link to a photo but not sure what rules are about linking to own blog.

Don't try and change who you are, just make who you are better quality.

And please don't wear that shirt, it's making baby Jesus cry.

MmeLindor. · 26/04/2012 08:36

Ha. Queen. Good suggestions.

I do want to wear dresses and skirts, but my legs are awful atm so will wait a while.

If you PM me the link to blog, I will have a look.

how come you aren't allowed to post a link to a blog? I would also like to see your blog Queen and would be v grateful for a pm with the link

FritziGreenEyes · 26/04/2012 08:46

mmelindor I bought this jacket in Zara yesterday. Wore it today (obviously not with leather hot pants as modeled on website!) with straight leg jeans, T-shirt and Converse high-tops. Oh, and a big scarf. Wearing a scarf is vital for feeling put together.

Have you had your colours done? You were mentioning a stylist in an earlier post?

QueenOfAllBiscuitsandMuffins · 26/04/2012 08:46

Nooooo, it's not a style blog it was just a photo of what I was wearing to show (I think!) that jeans and a top needn't be frumpy, drab or boring.

OracleInaCoracle · 26/04/2012 09:50

I love this cant find the blog I found it on though, but am also in a bit of a style rut.

spooktrain · 26/04/2012 10:17

have you done dressipi?
I haven't actually bought anything through the site yet, ie from their direct recommendations, but am following the general ideas with things I already have - fitted jackets, big scarves etc

OracleInaCoracle · 26/04/2012 10:18

I love this blog
