Davina dresses...

I've just been offered a training post that will mean I will ( finger's crossed) graduate next year and really fancy a Davina for the ceremony. I love a bit of advance planning :)

What is the sizing like?

I'm 5ft 3, size 8 ( broad shoulders though). As I'm not sure how much wear I'll get out of it after the event I'd quite like to keep an eye out for any offers on their website or even ebay and see if I can pick up a bargain.

Hi
The website has a couple on sale for £120 in paler colours. I have Davina in red - worn once and I wish I'd sold it on ebay last year as they are dropping in price month by month when I look now.

So - I would try on in a store to gauge size and if the style suits you. Then I'd look on ebay or online - they will be cheaper on both by then - you'll also get people selling them after weddings over this summer. You do have the risk that you may not get the colour you want though...

I am a 12 with sometimes a 13 bottom - I found the 12 a bit too tight and the 14 was more comfortable - and I am normally a standard 12 in LK B

Hope that helps

That's great thanks, I reckon then that it's a 10 I'm after but you're right I do need to try them on and see whether they suit me, especially as I am short.

I really like the red and the teal- I hadn't thought about the post wedding season though- good call. I suppose I could always ebay it on afterwards if it wasn't getting much wear.

I'm a petite 6-8 and can't get away with them at all sadly, I find the fit on the large side. Look at Kate middleton and that is the perfect height i think. If only they did a petite collection!

Maybe I should just be really cheeky and order an 8 and 10 from their website or John Lewis and have a trying on session. I might be barking up the wrong tree completely with this dress.

I am a 10 and find the fit is spot on. But, as with most things, I did have the dress tailored a bit once I had got it (length taken up and a few more bits). There are some great bargains on ebay for this dress.

Gypsy, you'll want to have the hem taken up as LKB dresses come up very long (I'm also 5ft3ins)

gypsyfloss · 25/04/2012 22:51

Thanks for all the tips. I think if I'm going to have to get it altered then I definitely want to get a bargain.

I thought it would suit me beautifully but I looked awful in it, baggy around the tummy and screaming for mercy across the boobs. Definitely try it on in advance just in case.

I've got broad shoulders and I'm a 10, and there was plenty of room in the 10 for my shoulders, so definitely don't size up!

Be warned, though, that cap sleeves and broad shoulders don't always go - I sent mine back for various reasons, including that.

gypsyfloss · 26/04/2012 07:02

Maybe , at that price, I could find something else. I certainly have plenty of time.

I'm a jeans and superga kind of casual dresser although I do wear P8 wrap dresses and boots for work. I suspect the Davina might also just be a tad too "dressed up" for me.

Hopefully I lurk on A&W and saw your " I'm with the band..." It made me laugh 'cos that would be me too. Although increasingly I think it looks more like " I'm the mother of the band" Grin

I'm a 12 but with tits. Are tight on bust and over trunk of body.
Loose on thighs. A little too loose for me.

NewMatic · 26/04/2012 07:15

I toyed with having it taken up but thought then about resale.
