Some of you wil have seen my tedious quest on here for a dress for a black tie 60th do this Saturday. Many thanks for help so far.

I've now got the dress. An Elena Miro (high end Italian plus-size line) silky waisted shift, so suits my hourglass shape. Sorry I haven't got a pic and not clever enough to take one and put it on. It's short-sleeved, with a neckline between a V and a sweetheart, in a quite bold black and white techno/ graphic type abstract print. To me, it has a bit of a sixties vibe. Luckily, the party is supposed to be black and white themed.

Have got some black snake patent shoes with velvet bows from Russsell and Bromley so that's sorted, I think.

Now need handbag and jewllery.

Would like a clutch. Probably too boring to have it in black too. Perhaps silver, or black with something else, eg diamanté?

Necklace needs to fill in the neckline with a pendant or something. Not girly, or itsy-bitsy which isn't my style. Needs to make a quite strong 'statement' but at same time not fight with pattern on dress. 'Silver' not gold.

Would like ear-rings too, though choice not helped by me being one of only women in country without pierced ears. So clip-on only, and must harmonise with necklace. Possibly also a cuff -but all 3 might be OTT?

I await your wise advice - suggestions for pieces and websites welcome.

Many TIA.

Too many possibilities to link to, but look at
banana republic love the chunky black and gold stuff, but you said silver. Some nice stuff tho.

I think you should get the snake clutch from P&M, LOVE IT!!! :)

madammecholet · 24/04/2012 18:17

OOh look at this Monica Vinader black and silver earrings and matching necklace...at the Outnet

polyhymnia · 25/04/2012 10:47

Thanks so much.

Lots of nice bags, wooly. Love the pricier ones, specially the Anya Hindmarch (I'm a fan) and the DVF. But the New Look, which are amazing value, are probably more in the range I should be looking at for this event. Several there I like, particularly the £9.00 cute daisy one!

madamme, hi, I'd love to get the P and M snake clutch (AND their Mariella snake, AND the tan Lucia, reduced till the end of today!!), but not sure if colours would 'go'. Am going to call them to check if it's mainly brown tones as it looks or if it has black and white notes, which might make it OK for this. I'd also get plenty of wear from it on other occasions, unlike anything more obviously eveningy.

Thanks for reminding me about Banana Republic jewellery, madamme. I've admired it in past. As you say, at moment they all seem to be gold, but will keep an eye on site in future. The Monica Vinader necklace I'd love for daytime, it's very much to my taste, but was thinking something a bit more evening-y this time. Perhaps this (though rather more than I was wanting to pay):

Just a 'bump' because couldn't find this post when I looked and would still welcome any comments on the Swarovski pendant - or any other jewellery suggestions.

Decided not to go for P and M snake clutch because the pattern would 'fight' with the pattern on my dress. Still want the Mariella, though!

Ordered 2 bags from New Look, the pretty beaded heart-shaped one in black and a pewter snake print, so eagerly awaiting them.

madammecholet · 25/04/2012 17:57

Oh well done polyhymnia, glad you got it sorted... Mariella is to die for too.:)

I like the necklace, but I prefer something more WOW like these here

madammecholet · 25/04/2012 18:06

Oh dear I should not have linked to that site, I just ordered earrings
for a black tie dinner on Friday...

polyhymnia · 25/04/2012 18:46

Mmm yes, see what you mean. Gorgeous earrings. Since someone - you? - suggested it here, have been enjoying browsing that lovely site.

But not sure which of those necklaces would go with/ not fight with a black and white abstract patterned dress. Do you have any ideas?

I haven't bought the Swarovsky pendant yet. If I do, was going to order the Glitzy jet clips to go with it. But your suggestions as ever gratefully received.

For example, would this

www.glitzysecrets.com/chic-in-pearls-necklace.html

go with these, and all with the dress

www.glitzysecrets.com/starlet-in-pearls-clip-on-earrings.html ??

Limited to clip-ons. I'm afraid!

I think you have to careful wit pearls as they can look a bit 'old. I'd go for something plainer and vintage/cool looking:

earrings

necklace

polyhymnia · 25/04/2012 19:27

Take the point on pearls . In fact haven't worn plain pearls for years for that very reason. Love the earrings and also the necklace. Had been looking at that style but not sure it'll be long enough on me. Any other ideas for a 'plain' style? Sorry to be such a pain.

madammecholet · 25/04/2012 19:42

this one matches the earrings

You don't want too big a necklace if you're doing earrings as well. less is more..

madammecholet · 27/04/2012 11:31

polyhymnia my earrings arrived this morning and they ARE TO DIE FOR! Perfect with LBD and a crystal cuff I have already.. v pleased!

polyhymnia · 27/04/2012 12:31

Great. Makes me think I should get my ears pierced afre all! Have a good evening - you'll obviously look fab.

Have ordered this:

www.glitzysecrets.com/almost-an-angel-necklace.html

hoping it will complement not fight with the pattern on dress.

Have also ordered a sparkly necklace from Hobbs outlet. So hope one of them will be OK!

The Swarovski pendant, which I trekked to shop to see, was very disppointing. Nice enough but it didn't lie flat on my chest, as the underside of the pendant was all bumpy (had some strange design - meant to be double-sided???) so useless for my purposes.

Made tmistake of popping iton Russell and Bromley when in Oxford St and saw two perfect evening clutches there in black patent lizard which match my shoes - just found out they have them in my local R and B too.One of them at least could be used for a smart day bag too. The temptation is major ...

'after' not 'afre'.

'into' not 'iton'!

Sorry if this is a dampener (and a bit after the fact), but do you need a necklace at all? Not sure why the necklace needs to 'fill in' the dress neckline; a good neckline can be a good statement in itself, and a necklace might make it all look a bit busy.

Also with a print dress I think you have to be careful with jewellery. And I would say don't double-accessorise ? so if you are wearing a necklace you don't need earrings and vice versa.

If the dress is a bit 60s, and you're not into itty-bitty girly stuff, you could try plastic jewellery: Tatty Devine are good.

madammecholet · 27/04/2012 13:14

I agree Lady, I've decided to wear those earrings with nothing at my neckline tonight, the earrings are WAY to bling to fight with anything else near my head... and just a crystal cuff.

polyhymnia · 27/04/2012 13:32

Yes I agree too! Not going for earrings and necklace def. and am questioning whether a necklace is a must.

That said, do like the black swallows necklace on that Tatty Devine site . Cant link as on phone. May try to look into their Covt Garden store to try it.
