My hair is currently <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.niceimage.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Brown-Hair-Color.jpg&imgrefurl=www.niceimage.org/2011/09/16/brown-hair-color/&h=537&w=356&sz=100&tbnid=9EdX3L23zoLRrM:&tbnh=95&tbnw=63&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dbrown%2Bhair%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=brown+hair&docid=c478Grgyyy39iM&sa=X&ei=ErSVT4KLF-rb0QWh2KT4AQ&ved=0CFMQ9QEwBg&dur=2763" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this colour but not as nice lol

I'm thinking of dying it <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=dark+blonde+hair&hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&biw=1138&bih=535&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=Qrirnq2tqfDseM:&imgrefurl=www.celebrityhairstyle.org/2010_07_01_archive.html&docid=IceiD-oKxbetdM&imgurl=2.bp.blogspot.com/_bQ0SqifjNcg/TFCGJr3NqWI/AAAAAAAAZm8/MrjTAJmBvMQ/s1600/jennifer-anniston-blonde.jpg&w=400&h=558&ei=XLSVT4aALanM0QX26MD3AQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=494&vpy=160&dur=1359&hovh=265&hovw=190&tx=117&ty=206&sig=111285780845549923506&page=1&tbnh=149&tbnw=113&start=0&ndsp=14&ved=1t:429,r:10,s:0,i:154" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">dark blonde

My aim is to look younger and less frumpy. Am I doing the wrong thing? it's NEVER been that light before

You could do it gradually, I take it that you were going to have it done in a salon? I go blond to different degrees (depending on the budget that I have for upkeep) if I am going from quite dark to blond I have warm colours put in, the first time I have it done I don't go so blond but by the second or third visit it is getting lighter. I like being blond, I find it lightens up my face.

I would definitely do it gradually if at all, and bear in mind that blonde hair takes a LOT of upkeep. If your hair is naturally that dark you will get dark roots within a few weeks, so think about whether you want the expense/time commitment to keeping it looking good. You might also find that your hair loses some condition so I would recommend investing in a really good conditioner and have regular treatments.

For what it's worth, if I had your colour hair I definitely wouldn't do it but mine is muddly blonde and looks rubbish without highlights, so I am a slave to the bleach.
