Spanx or similar ? Do they really work ??

I have found a dress for the wedding i'm going too in 2 weeks. It fits lovely, however my waist has vanished after DC3 was born 8 months ago. I have lost 12lb so far but still not enough.

I was going to invest in some Spanx or similar. Do they work ? Will they actually nip in my waist or would I need an industrial corset to suck my vast amount of fat existing waist in ?

Any recommendations ?

IME (large of arse) they don't work. If they fit my arse they gape at the tummy/waist and offer no support. To fit my waist they either cut my my buttocks in half or just don't go on. :(

I think they smooth rather than make you smaller tbh. When I was a 16 they didn't work as nicely as I hoped, in that they moved the flab upwards and whilst my arse looked more streamlined my waist got lost in all the upward shove flab. Now I'm a 10 they work a bit better to smooth out my saddlebags without making me lumpy elsewhere.

I don't think they'll work for what you want - as it seems your issue is your waist. That said, some of the other brands might be worth a try. Can you take the frock to JL or similar and trying varying shape wear on underneath it?

Oh bugger !!

The dress fits lovely but my ahem....slightly thick waist just makes me look a bit frumpy. I was hoping it would suck me in and give me an hour glass shape but I guess not.
I dont want to smooth anything, I want my waist pinched in ! poo !!! Sad
Maybe I should actually buy a bloody corset !!!

I think you will need an actual corset type thing for that! Spanx etc do work well for smoothing out little bulges or firming up wobbly bits, but they will not make you smaller or radically change the shape of your figure.

The M&S waist cincher pants are what you're looking for. They're pricey at £16 but work miracles for those of us who've lost our waists!

these

I don't think they'll give you a waist that you never had, but if you just need to firm up and smooth out a bit of extra fat rather than expecting them to turn an apple shape into an hourglass then they're great Smile

I got some m&s pants that offered tummy control I wore them under a dress and a skirt and my dh actually said they worked...he thought I had lost weight and when I took them off the arsehole said you can tell you're not wearing them now Grin I tried them on with my skirt in store over my usual underwear to see if they were any good and IMO they work! Can't link as on phone, they were not as industrial looking as the ones posted above,More like big tummy tamer pants!! Shmexy Grin
