Home hair dye disaster

Colourd it yesterday with a well known brand which said mid mahogany (permanent dye) Anyway now it s too red and too dark. Is there anything I can do to make it lighter.? My natural hair colour is mid brown but i did have highlights which I was trying to tone down which had gone far too light after 2 months. Those have clearly taken on the reddish colour too much.

I would probably seek advise from a hairdresser rather than to put something else on at home. You may probably need something to stip out the colour. If you put tint on tint it won't lift. You will need something with peroxide to lift it out then maybe a semi over the top. That 's the only down side if home hair dye. You just don't know how it will turn out. If it goes wrong you think you have saved money doing it at home but in the long run you ended up paying more to the hairdressers to fix it up. I think semi's are ok to do at home as they wash out over time if too dark.

An easy thing to try is washing it with Head and Shoulders which, anecdotally, seems to fade the colour fairly quickly.

I used to love that colour of dye and quite liked the dark red just after the first application. But after 3 washes it had usually faded loads, and after 10+ washes, even more. :( Reds are notorious for fading quite quickly. It may settle to the colour you were originally after, I'd give it a few weeks to live with it (and give your hair a bit of a rest from harsh chemicals) and see what the colour does. yy to head and shoulders as well, if you wanna fade it!

I m doing the head n shoulders thing. It has lightened but I think the red has too which probs makes it stand out even more. Anyway It all dsnt look black anymore which didn t suit me at all. One of the problems I m finding is that I look in one mirror and now it seems acceptable-ish. I look in another mirror and it seems overly red. I have no idea of which one is lying to me lol
