Summer attire for the self conscious - help please?

What do people wear around the pool on holiday? I am happy to wear swimming costume whilst sun bathing, however I don't like walking around. I shall be with my 5 year old and I will be ankle deep in the splash pool and on show .

I have a couple of long sleeved kaftans and will be getting (my first ever) spray tan. I am not a casual dresser, far more comfortable in business wear and nice dresses. For evening and general daytime, I need to pull together a capsule to get me through two weeks. One day I will take carry on luggage for a two week holiday. It won't be this year.

I like this and this. I prefer shorts - wider leg with a side fastening. Would jersey shorts look mad with a vest top?

Any ideas?

I have the Matalan jersey shorts and they are fab. May have a look for a swim skirt.

Could do with one more dress/ skirt. Any ideas?

I bought this at the weekend. It doubles as a skirt or a dress. I will more likely wear it as a skirt though.

TBH I'm not keen on the cotton kaftan. It looks too much like a nightie to me.
