MAC Cosmetics... Ugh!

The shop assistants' eye makeup is just so unbelievably flawless.

I mean seriously - is there something they know that we don't? With all the blending in the world, however good I get mine to look it never looks THAT good! So seamless and perfect...

Someone make an untrained makeup obsessive feel better, please!

Aah, but AFAIK they aren't shop assistants but properly trained make up artists...

VintageNoir · 20/04/2012 21:03

Oh I know they're trained, sorry should have said. But I get all my equipment/advice from there and don't look even nearly as good, no matter how much practice I put in. Wish I'd trained as a mua but it's a bit late for me now...

Sorry just having a Friday rant!

go in and pick the colours you really like and belnd them on your hands and see if you like the colour and it suits you

flawless make up is pretty naff, just a bit of colour that you like can work just as well

i like nars atm, am addicted

GrossePopel · 20/04/2012 21:06

Are they using an eyeshadow primer maybe... I have a free sample of an urban decay one but haven't tried it because it sounds so daft.

southeastastra · 20/04/2012 21:06

beind Grin blend

VintageNoir · 20/04/2012 21:14

Yes they do use primer - and the UD one is good, so do give it a try. It keeps the shadow in place longer and avoids creasing.

Have just read in Rae Morris's book that dusting translucent powder over lids after primer aids blending...

Who has been to the Mac store in Cambridge?

A guy works in there, dresses as a woman, has the most perfect, flawless make-up.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/04/2012 21:18

Not me but there is a similar guy in the metro centre who always looks amazing.

VintageNoir · 20/04/2012 21:19

They hate me in there. I'm there all the time, asking questions and staring at their immaculate makeup.

Ken I know who you mean. He does look fabulous.

Rustygussets · 20/04/2012 22:59

I went to the Cambridge one and came out thinking I was a warm only to find out that NW denotes a pink undertone -and so is actually cool. They are the only company who seem to do this. For some reason I was given a warm blush (sincere) and warm eye shadows to compliment......I did that thing of putting myself in their hands.

Oh dear.

I don't know about flawless either. There was DEFINITELY a touch of the scouse brow in evidence along with gothic influences. More statement make- up to my mind. I do like a bit of theatrical flourish mind.....

VintageNoir · 21/04/2012 00:39

Hmm... there's definitely one I can think of with all-out Scouse brows, and I think I know who you mean re Gothic influences. But some of them look lovely.

I was in there today and a lady had been made up for a night out with what she told me were a group of "very competitive mums". She was so pleased with the outcome of her look, and she looked awesome.

I do wonder though if a lot of it comes down to eye colour. Mine are brown and I really struggle to bring them out. I think blue and green eyes are generally easier to make stand out.

enthusiasmcurbed He made up a little pack of some things for my birthday for DH , going off my customer card. Got it spot on.

ihatethecold · 21/04/2012 09:49

It's my local one also Smile
I came out a bit orangeBlush I had a voucher so I got a makeover then spent the money on mac stuff. The foundation is really dire!
I do rate the eye primer though

Whitershadeofpale · 21/04/2012 11:10

Have you seen the Lisa Eldridge video for navy smokey eyes? It looks amazing on the models brown eyes, really makes the colours pop.

BrieAddicted · 21/04/2012 11:20

I have a Mac eyeshadow brush and Mac primer and always have well blended eye makeup (I think!) the primer stops it creasing and he brush melts it all together beautifully. I probably do put a bit too much on sometimes but I only really wear it for weddings/nights out etc so I hope it looks alright!
