What do you keep your make up in?

I had been keeping mine en masse in cutlery trays in a bedroom drawer.

However I've now moved the mirror in there that was in the good light, the littlies have done a bit of a raid (think loose powder all over drawer - not good Grin),and basically the whole thing needs a bit of a re-think.

Do you keep a bag with you and keep the surplus and/or duplicates elsewhere? Or keep just one bag? Are you a bathroom or bedroom maker upperer?

Inspire me with your storage solutions! (please!)

I'd just search for a filing cabinet type thing then online. Loads of those of have locks. Something like this although is a lot smaller than the other one.

Can't you just tell the DCs if they play with your make up without permission theres big trouble. I think this is one of the few rules I've managed to instil in mine. Although its probably more likely the crying and screaming shit fit I had over finding my bedspread covered in foundation some years ago that did it rather than me telling them.

DidYouPackThePassport · 20/04/2012 13:33

A suitcase - (how very apt!) the stuff seems to self duplicate... hmmm, or is that me just forgetting what I've got and buying another?

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/04/2012 13:45

I keep all the stuff I buy on offer etc or rarely used items in a plastic tub all standing up neatly.

Make up is kept in a desk organiser, the type with clear plastic drawers. Top drawer hair stuff.

Middle drawer make up.

Bottom drawer skin care eg cleanser and eye cream.

Nail varnish kept in the fridge with perfume. Perfume kept in it's original box to stop the light spoiling it.

To be fair, the kids haven't done any thing since the loose powder fiasco Ruby, but I still live in fear Grin

I'm sure that sensibly speaking I wouldn't need a locking thing (that is,until they're teenagers I suppose).

brighthair,I reckon my goal should be to pare my make up down a little,as per Vivian! But it is such fun to be able to experiment!

Vivian out of my several mascaras on the go,I've really found the cheappie Avon one the best (the really cheap range they do) strangely enough!(whats a dandelion?)

Right I really am going to go and have a sort - I got ambushed by the laundry and washing up on the way last time!

I've got this ..www.lakeland.co.uk/40117/Make-Up-Caddy , it's fab!

RubyFakeNails · 20/04/2012 14:50

Vivian this is corrector its amazingly good.

Also having that much make up is easy, yes as you said you expect people may have lots of lip sticks/glosses and eyeshadows which I do buttt, I also have lots of different eyeliners (liquid, pencil, different colours, some which smudge well some which sparkle, some to give solid colour), blushers (creams, powders, sticks, tints, all different shades) and the same with bronzers and highlighters. Also foundations and powders I buy in different shades in the summer because I get a slight tan and generally I may buy a product to try or because it went on well in the shop but after a few days I find it gives me spots or drys me out or is to heavy for everyday etc etc so it goes in the drawer for occasional use. The same with mascaras and moisturisers.

Put it like this, I probably buy at least one makeup item a week.

brighthair · 20/04/2012 14:51

I have everything
Probably 100 eyeshadows
Different blushers, mascaras, primers, loose pigments, radiance powders....
I do use it all and I wear different make up pretty much every day

brighthair · 20/04/2012 14:52

Dandelion is by urban decay, pale powder blush

RubyFakeNails · 20/04/2012 14:56

Also Skinny you're right the teenage years are the worst just a few weeks ago DD1 got her makeup bag confiscated at school god knows why when they all wear makeup and aren't strict on uniform but anyway muggins had to go and pick it up.

1 thing in this whole bag was hers, the rest was all MINE! She had my By Terry mascara, my favourite lip gloss, everything I thought I'd somehow lost and some things I hadn't even noticed missing.

Thinking about it now a lock may be the way to go.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 20/04/2012 15:03

Grin @ Ruby.

I've just had a little tot up and I'm a bit of a lightweight when it comes to some of you.

I only have 37 eyeshadows,11 lippies and 12 eye liners.

I reckon storing in a drawer must just be a very uneconomical way to go about it,space wise.

Until I find a more permanent solution I reckon I'll dig out a few old bags.

Now off to clear up the loose powder.....hoover I think....

Dandelion is by Benefit.

brighthair · 20/04/2012 16:48

Oops Blush
I was typing potion primer on another thread and got mixed up
I love Benefit blushers

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 20/04/2012 19:52

I used to have one of these for years, inside a cupboard.
I didn't use it for make up though, more hair stuff and odds and ends/emery boards/spare buttons/general crap.

I don't really like anything out on display as it gathers dust, as has been said, but this thread's inspiring me to sort my (tiny) bedroom so I have a decent dressing table and space for my tights somewhere other than a basket under the bed.
I reckon pushing age 49 is about time to get these things organised!

Mythical · 20/04/2012 20:29

i use a toolbox .... :o

like one of these but in silver

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 20/04/2012 21:47

Mythical that's a brilliant idea actually! All those little compartments just ooze organisation.

Well I've spent a lovely bit of time doing my sorting. Like you Shotgun,I have a tiny bedroom, and I had no dressing table.

I've left the make up in my chrome cutlery tray for now,but I've cleared the top of a chest of drawers as a dressing table so its out to see.DD's have benefitted from a couple of bits, and I've put together a bag of basics for my handbag.

I've got my lotions and potions on there now and all my jewellery together in one place so I don't have to hunt for it.

Its giving me a lovely sorted out feeling and its so nice to have a space just for me!

Thank you everyone for your inspiration and advice Thanks

Someone on a blog posted this

www.lipglossiping.com/2012/04/the-perfect-ikea-makeup-storage-solution-for-less-than-youd-think/

its from ikea and costs £35 if you count the drawer inserts - alas I do not own nearly enough to justify it!
