I'm having a MAC makeup lesson - what products should I buy?

Having hit the big 4-0 have decided to treat myself to a makeup lesson, to bring my makeup up-to-date. I have paid £25 for the session and will get this back when I buy products...so the question is: What products are THE indispensible ones in the MAC range and what ones are less essential/a waste of money.

All views gratefully accepted! Thanks

spice lip pencil. lip glass in Lust and Traffic.

The creme blushers are fantastic - last really well - much better than any powder blusher I have used.

I like all the MAC stuff tbh

Beetroot · 09/02/2006 14:28

you will want to buy them all.

the floundation is great, brushes, the cream blush. their eyeleines are great. and i like the paint eye colours

Beetroot · 09/02/2006 14:28

puff, I have just bought a new brush, a stipler, i use it for cream, foundation and blush. bloody marvelous

NomDePlume · 09/02/2006 14:29

I'd say wait and see how the lesson goes. The 'essentials' for you will be different to other peoples

Beetroot · 09/02/2006 14:30

i reall by really love the Mac pigment clour powder. i have it in natural ithink as a little shimmer over th eeyes and chhekbones

puff · 09/02/2006 14:32

ooh, must get myself one beety - it works well with the creme blusher too then?

I agree about buying what is right for you, especially colourwise.

What I notice with Mac products is they are very long lasting - make up stays looking good for ages.

merlot · 09/02/2006 14:34

sounds like I need to save up my pennies in readiness

I will deffo need some sort of concealer for dark circles under my eyes. A friend of mine reckons that YSL - touche eclat, cant be beaten for that. Is she right? or will MAC be able to come up with something that will do the job as well?

I had a eye makeover a few weeks ago and bought 3 eye shadows, blusher, lip pencil and lipstick, all used every day since. The MAC products are great and the makeup artists are really well trained. I was v inpressed.

Twas New Year resolution
And 10 mins at Mac counter did it for me

nitfreecod · 09/02/2006 19:41

I love the foundations, blushers, lipsticks and eyeshadows. I had a makeover in New York a few years back with MAC and spent a bomb on their stuff. It lasted relly well though.

hullabaloo · 09/02/2006 22:34

Ooh lucky you. I got this as a present from mum last summer and it was fab. I bought most of the stuff she used! Loved the foundation brush and a gorgeous lipstick called Plastique. You'll probably want whatever she uses so you can try them out at home. Whatever you decide on - Enjoy!

Beetroot · 10/02/2006 23:02

Puff yes, dip it in your moisturiser, and stipple, then in your foundaton(without wasing) and stipple then in your creme blusher.. fabulous.

Millie1 · 21/02/2006 20:05

Merlot .. have you been yet? How did you get on - what did you buy?

How come you lot aren't intimidated by the Mac make-up people? I eyed them up in Selfridges on Sat (as I was going to Blink to get my eyebrows done) and just couldn't summon the courage to approach them. They all look so young and trendy! Are there any counters staffed by (ahem) late 30 somethings?

chonky · 21/02/2006 20:16

I did this about 6 months ago and splurged on some decent brushes. Worth every penny, they've transformed how I apply my make-up.

I love the eyeshadows too, the colour doesn't crease.

Millie1 · 21/02/2006 21:52

Maybe this could be a good & fun idea ... would MAC be best to go to ... what about Bobbi Browne etc?? Anyone else get a makeup lesson??

meggmoo · 21/02/2006 21:53

Lip pencil in Spice, goes with so much.

Beetroot · 21/02/2006 21:53

Yoyo, a child did me at Selfridges
I winced as she approached -- oh jeez, not her, too scary
But she was good, despite her disconcerting green eyeshadow
