I'm having a MAC makeup lesson - what products should I buy?

Having hit the big 4-0 have decided to treat myself to a makeup lesson, to bring my makeup up-to-date. I have paid £25 for the session and will get this back when I buy products...so the question is: What products are THE indispensible ones in the MAC range and what ones are less essential/a waste of money.

All views gratefully accepted! Thanks

She's prob been 'spotted' by Models 1!
Anyone been 'done' by Bobbi Brown stuff?

yoyo · 24/02/2006 09:56

Bakedpotato - that's reassuring in a strange way. I may brave their youth at Easter and sort myself out. Easter is looking a bit scary as am also considering getting my hair coloured but my hairdresser is fab so not as worrying.

Yes, and they can often suffocate yo with foundation

vickiyumyum · 25/02/2006 09:30

LOL! shes probbaly recovering after the shock of having spent so much on make up. they have that effect on you these make up counters everytime they make you over you feel the need to buy it all, and needless to say they haven't just used one or two items on you, but the whole bloody range!

or is that just me? i now have a massive collection of MAC, benefit, dior, bobbi brown and estee lauder products, not too mention the things that i buy on impulse from other counters like clinique and clarins. still trying to find a laura mercier near me though!

seriously though the mac and bobbi brown make overs are fantastic.

Millie1 · 25/02/2006 14:43

Vickiyumyum ... which did you prefer? I might try and arrange one soon (boy, could i do with it!) but tend to use Bobbi Browne foundation anyway so don't know whether to just stick with that or go and see what MAC is like.

And where is Merlot ?

vickiyumyum · 25/02/2006 16:08

i preferred the mac makeover, the woman that did it listened more to waht i was after, an everday make up look, wheras the bobbi brown woman wanted to glam me up. the benefit one was really good too, but had quite a pressurised sales pitch. mac did the mac up left the products on the side and left me to choose which ones i wanted to purchase without any pressure. still brought it all though

misty · 25/02/2006 16:17

How do you go about finding somewhere local that offers MAC makeup courses?

vickiyumyum · 25/02/2006 17:43

they do them at the counter in most stores or you can go to one of the mac superstores in london and they have a room. i had mine done at the counter in house of fraser

it's like when you do stippling on a wall - you sort of jab it gently on your cheeks - I've only used it for blusher so far.

ps - ebay bargain tip - I got 4 diff lancome waterproof eyeliners for £4 each (£15 in shops) they are good - colours: prune, violet, ginger and green.

Beetroot · 26/02/2006 15:09

same way for moisturisetr adn founddation. stipler you face.

great bargain Puff, will have a look!

Bump for Merlot who was spotted checking in to mn this evening!

merlot · 27/02/2006 23:20

sorry girls, got sidetracked Grin

Had a great morning with the MAC Girl.

Ended up buying a cream blush (thought that was amazing), velvet rose lip colour and a great mascara. Was also very impressed that they used brushes to apply everything (even moisturiser!)

I felt the make up lesson was well worth £25 as I got free products to the value thrown in.

Absolutely amazed at the range of eye make up colours - but you must remember I have been a Rimmel girl who applied her eye shadow with cotton buds Blush

Cant wait to go back for another session for a more glam look - had a basic day time makeup. Will make sure I've got somewhere good to go afterwards though!
