Sorry, not a very stylish query! My dds Converse are only a couple of weeks old but are filthy. Can I sponge them? Soak them? Wash in machine? TIA.

I have washed converse in the machine before and they have survived!

MarkStretch · 16/04/2012 20:44

I've put mine in the washing machine and they were fine. Bloody noisy when they're in there though!

TheScottishPlayer · 16/04/2012 20:44

I wash my converse in the machine every now and again in a low temp short wash. It hasn't done them any harm, though I don't think that it's recommended. I've never found trying to sponge them down very effective.

I put the kids' hi-tops through the machine. Seems ok.

pictish · 16/04/2012 20:45

At 40 that is.

doglover · 16/04/2012 20:46

Thanks, ladies. I'll give it a go tomorrow: don't fancy doing it tonight if it'll be noisy!! Love Mumsnet!

I was advised to put them in a pillowcase.
Don't know why and it didn't make any difference - still nosiy but came out clean.

TheScottishPlayer · 16/04/2012 20:53

Oh, I do them in a pillowcase too. And I take the laces out and put them in the pillowcase.

My machine has a sports shoe cycle and they were fine in that

gypsyfloss · 17/04/2012 10:36

My washing machine repairman suggested chucking a couple of towels in at the same time to keep the balance right.

I am rather impressed that your machine has a sports shoe cycle. I wonder how well it would manage DS rugby boots Grin
