hello ladies, my first post as I'm really at my wits end - I've been lurking for a bit and know how wondrous you all are. :o
Here's my dilemma: My brother gets married in 2 weeks' time, i have 2 DDs (10wks) an 4 yr both kitted out and DH who has also been kitted out in a new suit - he's not generally a suit wearer, the last "smart" do we were at was DD1's christening! I've several brothers and sisters, none of whom have children and I always feel like we DH, DDs and I "let the side down" so I'm really trying to make an effort here.

I bought the cheap alternative to this dress in the Jan sales - and fortunately it fits, though it's about mid calf length on me as I'm 5'8". Given the temperature just now and the fact that the wedding will take place on top of a hill (wedding) and by the sea (reception), in the north of England, I really need a cover up. I feel like I've tried everywhere, we don't have much money - I even started knitting but the colour is all wrong. I tried this jacket , the colour works but it makes me look like I'm wearing a balloon for a skirt and it's also way too expensive - see how desperate I am. I'm about a size 16 jacket and have wobbly tummy and extra baby flabbyness. Just spotted this and wonder if it might do the job?

The shoes I'll be faling over in wearing are these

Any help gratefully accepted, I'm not sure how many more failed attempts at shopping I can cope with :)

What about a pashmina?

Anaiasmum · 16/04/2012 18:06

thanks Agatha but I'm really rubbish at wearing them - what do I do with it? DD2 currently spends all her time in a wrap, so was thinking of just getting a pretty coloured one ;) Either that or I'll be ditching the current dress and starting all over again!

Your dress is fine, is it the same colour as the one in the link?

Could you get something like an old fashioned crochet shawl, maybe try ebay, to wrap around your shoulders.

Pashminas are easy to wear, sling around shoulders and just tuck it through your arms. Alternatively, saw a lovely black one on someone at a wedding this Saturday - she had held it together with a lovely brooch at the front.

Are you good at making stuff? A short fur cape, maybe?

HairThieves · 16/04/2012 18:39

A pale grey/silvery pashmina would look lovely and go with the shoes.

AgathaFusty · 16/04/2012 18:43

I agree HairThieves. Silver would be lovely with that dress.

Thank you ladies -broach is a good idea Agatha, I've never been able to do the whole tuck it in thing-just annoys me. Fussy and hopeless I know. Yes the dress is the same colour and I can knit but bit of a tall order at this late stage- 10 wk old dd bfing 3hrly. Silver grey pashmina with a purple? Broach looks like the way forward. Knew I could rely on you lot :-)

There are some really nice, reasonably priced silver ones on Ebay.
