Stupid sticky out 'sideburns'

I have quite fine, straight hair - great if I blow dry it and wear it down. BUT if I wear my hair up I get these stupid bits at the side, just by my ear (sort of side burns but not, iyswim?!?) that sometimes stick straight out horizontally.

DH calls them my wings and says that they're cute Hmm but they make me feel like I have the hair of a 12 year old girl. Since I had my DS 18 months ago I also have short (regrowth?) sticky up bits right on the top too that don't seem to get any longer.

Ahhh I sound so glamorous. Does anyone get what I mean and have any tips/hairstyle ideas to tame these stupid bits of hair (apart from copious amounts of hairspray)?

I have these too! I've always had them... I'm 40 in few months! My DH loves them too haha... I've also, over the last few years, developed the short regrowth never-gets-any-longer-just-tufty stuff you describe! I have thick, healthy hair which is def my best feature (always being commented on, it's quite a unique shade) so I'm not really worried, just, er, aware of it I suppose!

Anyway, no advice, but you're not alone!

Oh I'm glad it's not just me - where I work all the other women look very 'done', even when my friend just scrapes her hair into a ponytail it's all sleek and sophisticated like.

I also have a cowlick but that's another story. In spite of this I used to love my hair but it feels a bit hopeless at the moment, can't do anything with it!

I've alwasy had this- and always hated it! I've always tied my hair up ffor work and by trhe end of the day these stupid wings stick right out. Plus I wear glasses which doesn't help! I've had my hair cut to a length just slightly too short to put up so it's not in my way at work and hides the sideburns!

Twice now I've asked different hairdressers what I can do with the bit of hair- one looked at me oddly and said he didn't know, the other looked at me oddly in a kind of 'why would she want to do anything' way that made me feel very stupid. Sigh. If I need to put my hair up I use a bit of product, whatever is handy, to slick it back and about 6 kirbies each side :(
