I am going to a friend's birthday drinks tomorrow night - its cocktails in a reasonably but not amazingly swanky bar. I am going on my own, couldn't find a babysitter so DH staying home. She is a mum I know, I am going with another mum and her DH, but we don't know how many other people we will know (her DH invited us, its a surprise 40th). I don't know if you need all that background. Anyway - I have no money to buy an outfit so am going to go in something I already own. I have a dress I have only worn twice so am keen to get some more wear out of it - it is from French Connection, short and tight, bodycon type thing. I am slim but 38 yrs old - too old for a tight mini dress? And then what to wear it with - I could wear it with dark tights and black heeled boots, or black tights and black heels, worried the last combo will be too smart, or bare legs and black heels, think its too cold for this.
ARGH, I wear jeans and jogging bottoms all the time and do want to dress up but don't feel that confident as haven't dressed up for so long

i would wear it with opaques and heels. its definitely too cold for bare legs and i dont think a tight dress and boots are a good look.

Yes definitely opaques and heels.
If it's a bar couldn't you wear jeans and a sparkly top and heels if you'd feel more comfortable?

hoppityhoppity · 13/04/2012 15:51

Karbea, I could BUT I don't have any tops that are that nice, they are all a bit overworn s don't look so smart any more AND I never have the chance to dress up so I am tempted to go for it despite the fact its not what I normally wear

Thanks both - I think I will try it on tonight and see how I feel. I suppose part of me just doesn't know when you get too old to wear cothes you ahve had in your wardrobe forever but just v rarely wear...
