Itchy scalp - help please!

Hi

For the past few months I have had a really, REALLY itchy scalp - it's driving me mad!

I don't have dandruff, or head lice (Dsis is a primary teacher and did a thorough check!). I have not changed shampoo brands - although have tried using different shampoo/conditioner combinations to no avail.

Can anyone recommend any products which might help??

I have scrateched my head about 13 times while typing this message...

Kerastase shampoo works for me, as does Philip Kingsley shampoo. I find a leave in conditioner works better than a wash out one, as I can put it on the lengths of my hair and it doesn't touch my scalp. I used a wella SP leave in conditioner.

I get Philip Kingsley and and Wella Sp from beautybay.com and kerastase from feelunique.com

If you're on more of a budget, then T Gel shampoo + Nizoral Shampoo work, but dry out my hair as it's fine and coloured.

HTH

the best I found was Barefoot Botanicals :)
I tried Green People itchy scalp (or whatever its called), louise galvin (or whatever her name is) and melvita, and didnt love them...
Am using Avalon Organics at the mo, is ok, but not as good as BB. Sounds like you need to avoid sulphates which most Boots/Supermarket brands contain (esp kerastase, which is basically l'oreal, philip kingsley,et al)

L'Oreal anti dandruff shampoo - its blue with an orange lid. Fantastic stuff.

AgathaFusty · 12/04/2012 16:02

You might be allergic/intolerant to parabens or sulphates in your shampoo. You could try this, it worked brilliantly for me.

My scalp alwaaays itches :( .and most shampoos make it much worse. The only thing that really helps is vosene. It must be the salycylic acid in it, I don't have dandruff but this really helps my scalp, it's so drying on the hair though so im trying to find something else to use either as well as or instead but it's the best so far.

I don't have dandruff and have the same problem. I have tried just about everything. Hair Doctor by Lush is my miracle. Wish had discovered it earlier. I sleep with it on my hairline over night.

Go to your GP. I had an allergic reaction to something, scalp itched like bejeeesus and they prescribed me a shampoo which did the job.

Otherwise, it has to be T-Gel or Vosene shampoo.

I suffered from this for ages- I have a history of eczema. One thing i found that heped was rinsing really really thoroughly- after using the shower hose- over the bath- I'd stick my head under the taps to get a full flow of water and rinse- and rinse.

May be coincidence but it's helped hugely.

Been using Nizoral on and off for many years and it always worked well.

Brilliant, thanks everyone - will start working through your recommendations...
