Dress for a wedding

Hello there!

I need your help please! I have looking on the internet for a dress to attend a wedding, but I am confused.

I live in a very small place and we only have Dorothy Perkings, Next, New Look, TopShop, Miss Selfridge, and M&S, they are all very small. Hence I have been looking on the internet, but all the dresses I like have reviews that say "I received lovely compliments at work". I like the pencil dresses and recently the ones that have darker panels on the sides, being a size 12-14 and big boobies I think those fit me nicely, but I am worried the ones I like are too plain, fit for work but not a wedding.

Can you please give me some advice and ideas? I am going to town tomorrow for a last look, if I don't find anything I'll start ordering on the net.

Thanks!

Oops, sorry, just noticed you specified 12-14 - will go and look now.

Kione · 11/04/2012 22:51

Thanks for doing all that for me, I have to go to bed soon though if I don't reply, but will check this thread tomorrow morning.

You think I could throw a black biker jacket with the pink pepperberry dress?? that'd be so me, but I don't want to look like a bufoon either!

BTW the black jacket I am talking about is from Next, a different one like a suit type one that I alway put on with a black dress for weddings. But I am sure that one wouldn't work with the pepperberry dress but maybe the biker one will give it an edgy look...?

How about?

definitely dramatic, but not sure about the high neckline

Kione · 12/04/2012 09:11

Wow!!!! I love it!! Its very me a few years back, but I could still wear it. Thanks sooo much, if I don't find anything in town today that blows me away (because I still prefer to try things on before buying) I'll deffinitelly go for this, my only concern is that my DP might not like it, he is a lot more boring conservative

I could wear that with black jacket and black shoes right? the shoes are platform so will give it a pin-up touch :D

I like this one too. Thanks for that page :D

My DP will like that one more I am sure. I know I shouldn't care, but its his mates wedding and I want him to think I look good too :)

I mean I want my DP to think i look good, not his mate obviously! Oh dear that looked terrible

Ooh, didn't spot that one last night!. I know what you mean about wanting DP to like it too. Think the biker and platforms would look great with the first one, but you would need to wear the more conservative jacket with the second one.

Maybe if you haven't found something today then show him both on-line and see what he thinks? You might be surprised Grin

Kione · 12/04/2012 12:24

Yes, that is my plan. Will let you know.

Thanks!

IME the last couple of weddings I have attended I have felt too dressed up (dress, cardigan, fascinator) as many of the guests were v informal (linen trousers, fancy flip flops etc) so I think it depends on venue, style of wedding etc. I am going for a similar style to you so maybe focus on statement/funky accessories to dress it up a bit? My wedding is a civil ceremony in a country house with marquee reception what about yours?

Kione · 12/04/2012 20:39

I felt a bit dressed down on the last one, but I was pregnant AND moving and couldn';t find my clothes and the dress was too short and it was a desaster, hate looking at the pics!
This wedding ins in a registry office in a castle (this is quite common where I live so sounds great, and it is, but not very fancy or anything), then lunch at a tapas place, which is in front of the castle and keeps with the decor and then the night due is at an amazing place in the coast with striking views, but its a modern building.
I went to town and no joy, so I am going for the Mai dress. As I thought DP didn't like the striking one and we thought this was more appropiate. I have red hoes to go with it too. I will wear it with the more conventional black jacket. For the day do I'll need a bit handbag for wipes, nappies, etc. Shock but will be coming home to bring DD, so then I might swap for a red little clitch bag.
I am not sure if funcky accesories go with it, I was thinking a bid necklace in gold or wood...

Glad you found a dress! Perhaps, instead of a necklace, go for a large cuff in wood or gold?

Dollydowser · 12/04/2012 21:14

Or a big corsage/flower a la SJP.

Kione · 12/04/2012 21:20

Sorry the speling mistakes! I am dislexic and have a bad habit of not re-reading!

Great ideas! I'll see if I find something that goes with the dress online, since it was so cheap Grin

*Spelling Blush

There are tons of them, great!! I guess black is better than red since the shoes will be red... or maybe another colour to break it up a bit?
Sorry to rely so much on you but this is great as I am not good at putting outfits together and you are helping so much!

You've done pretty well so far Grin.
If you mean Dolly's corsage idea, then hmm, difficult to know colour-wise.
Maybe wait until the dress arrives, then take it along to anywhere that sells those large fake flowers and pick one that goes?

Should be easy (and cheap) to sew that onto a hair tie / ribbon and tie it around your wrist or just put a safety pin through it and place on your shoulder.

Kione · 13/04/2012 08:13

Yes, I might wait, but there won't be many places here where they sell those, I was going to order one from the net again. I like it in the shoulder more, but yes, will wait until dress arrives.

The dress arrived today and I am a bit dissapointed as the fabric looks strange. The border are pure silk, but they look like if they haven't been finished, and the black fabric is all wrinkly around the flowers.

I thought I could order this one that I also liked and having both then send back the one I like the least.

Do you think the one above is suitable for a wedding? its more "me" anyway.

Thanks!
