Weird to never wear make-up?

Ok I don't actually think I'm being unreasonable, I just wanted to find out how much of a weirdo I am.

I've never been big into make-up, I wore it little bit in my teens and early 20s but was pretty rubbish at making it look good. I just can't stand the feeling of it on my face and I have a tendency to rub at it as it annoys me.

Recently I've just stopped altogether, I've got two really posh events coming up and am wondering whether I should just not bother as normal, or actually invest in a little bit to try and scrub up a bit. However I'm leaning towards just not bothering with it ever again. Wibu?

I don't bother either, last time I wore makeup was for my wedding and it was on my eyes only. I only wore it because my mum's (female) partner was obviously distressed at the thought of getting married without at least some makeup. They had both given up on trying to get me to wear shoes to get married though Grin. I gave her access to my face for the amount of time it took me to eat a doughnut. DH said I looked different and I could tell he wasn't keen.

I don't like the feel of it on my face or the thought of smearing chemicals over my skin everyday, it makes me feel really selfconscious that its smeared or rubbed off and I have to look at my face in the mirror more than I want to.

I spend the money I would have spent on makeup on books and the time I would have spent on putting it on asleep.

lottielou39 · 10/04/2012 16:11

YANBU but I wear it every day even when I'm ill, in labour, and the only time I can remember not wearing it in public was when I had a general anesthetic to have wisdom teeth out and couldn't look at the anaesthetist without any mascara on, the shame

MakeMineACafPow · 10/04/2012 16:20

I never wear any. I makes me feel weird and self conscious. On a couple of occasions I have planned to try but usually if I even make out the house wearing any, I end up rubbing it off before I get to my destination.

I thought I was odd for being like this so thank you for showing me I am not alone. Smile

AutumnSummers · 10/04/2012 16:23

I don't wear make-up day to day anymore but I'd not go to an event without any. I would feel that if I had a really nice outfit on and had made an effort with my hair that not wearing make up would bring down the whole look.

lottielou39 · 10/04/2012 16:23

you're all much better off not wearing makeup cos once you've been seen in public with eyeliner etc., go out au naturel and everyone will ask you if you're ill!

camdancer · 10/04/2012 16:30

Last time I wore make-up (2 years ago, to dance on stage) it took me 15 mins to find it! It would take a lot longer now as I have no idea where it is. Does make-up go off?

When I wear it, DH usually says "you look nice, but just not like you." I feel like a clown with it on. My skin is very scarred from chicken pox, so I'd have to wear so much foundation to get a clear palatte. It's easier just to not bother then I'm not drawing attention to my face. I'm sure it is healthier for my skin also.

Angelico · 10/04/2012 16:33

I never wear it normally but do make an exception for special events e.g. fancy dinner I shall wear some, otherwise nah, life is too short.

Thing is though I am the first to admit that when I do wear it I get lots more looks etc. Just too lazy tbh :o

skrumle · 10/04/2012 16:35

if you don't want to then don't.

i've started to wear a bit now that i'm getting old... (turned 38 recently and have noticed in the last 18mths that i'm definitely showing signs of aging!) plus i'm standing for election and feel the need to conform by wearing some make-up. i tend to wear tinted moisturiser, tinted lip balm (burts bees) and a scrape of mascara on my top lashes which makes me feel like i've made an effort but doesn't leave me feeling like i have a mask on.

i can't wear a full face of make-up because after years of never wearing any i'm too inclined to do things like rub my eyes and smear makeup everywhere!

birthdaygurl · 10/04/2012 16:37

yanbu

Yummymummyyobe1 · 10/04/2012 16:43

I have been makeup free for a few months with the hormones and everything and to be fair the hormones have evened out my skin tone and improved the overall look of my skin.

I can't wait to be able to wear a little makup again. Tinted moisturiser is a really good idea for a natrual loo. Also if you wet a make up sponge and use it with your foundation it gives your skin a dewy look. xx

eurochick · 10/04/2012 16:50

Is it all make up you hate the feel of or just some? I hate the feeling of foundation and so only wear it for weddings or when I am giving a presentation. But I don't notice mascara, eyeliner, etc. Lipsticks I don't notice if I get the right texture (Mac is good for this) but some are very sticky.

I wear make up 5 or 6 days a week but very little.

TheAvocadoOfWisdom · 10/04/2012 16:52

yanbu. I never wear it except for a tiny bit of mascara once every month or so.

squoosh · 10/04/2012 16:52

Tinted moisturiser is a great alternative to foundation, if you worry about any mask like feeling. Tinted lip balm and concealer are great too and take only seconds to apply.

ZZZenAgain · 10/04/2012 16:56

I know quite a few women who don't seem to wear make-up in the daytime. However, if you are going to a fancy do at night, maybe some make-up would finish off your look. It isn't strictly speaking necessary. Some women IMO look better without make-up - for example flaxen haired, pale skinned women. Almost everything they wear stands out against their natural colouring.

Maybe you could try getting your make-up done professionally to look as natural as you want it to look but enhance your natural looks. I know women who don't wear make-up when they have a ballgown on either. My mother was one of those.

PurplePidjin · 10/04/2012 16:58

I wear powder, lippie, eye shadow and one coat of mascara under duress, eg job interviews, posh events.

It makes my acne flare up and I don't see why I should wear something simply because a sexist society deems me more attractive with it on! I'm actually perfectly presentable without it except when I've forgotten to do my eyebrows Grin

BBQJuly · 10/04/2012 18:02

YANBU. It's totally up to you. I know quite a few people who don't wear makeup and they all look fine. I wear it sometimes but only when I feel like it.

catgirl1976 · 10/04/2012 18:18

YANBU - If you don't like it and feel more comfortable with out then don't wear it. I get the feeling if you did wear it you would feel so self concious about it, it would end up detracting from your enjoyment of the night.

Maybe do go to a make up counter / a beauty parlour if you decide you are going to. I think the mineral make ups a fairly light?

I wouldn't put the bins out without it but that's just me.

2old2beamum · 10/04/2012 21:00

CBA with make up but wouldn't be smelt dead without my Chanel No 5 (what a snob) Blush

ifancyashandy · 10/04/2012 22:04

YANBU

But I adore make up, it's fun! I can create cheekbones, eyelashes, flawless skin and enhance my colouring & I love creating new looks, buying loads of products & playing!

I wear it everywhere but the gym / running.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 10/04/2012 22:07

YANBU if you don't like makeup.

I on the other hand would not answer the door to the milkman without a full face of slap on. I remember in hospital when I had my DC getting my make up bag out and doing my face and hair.

lolajane2009 · 10/04/2012 22:07

i never wear makeup and haven't for quite a few years due to v. sensitive skin. i think the last time i wore it was just under 7 years ago when i got married.

thepeoplesprincess · 10/04/2012 22:12

YANBU.

I love make-up meself. Fine. You don't. Also fine.

Your value as an individual should not be measured by how much mineralated animal fat you've got smeared all over your face. It's just a bit of fun (to those who find it fun)

Don't go to benefit, I like some of their products but they generally look like clowns. Wink
