This is very important... Bare Minerals, Sheer Cover or Lily Lolo mineral make up?

I have done a search but can't find The Answer. So, wise ones. Which is best?

Lily Lolo is cheaper.

MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 14:23

Depends on what look you like, I found BM original too shiny, so switched to LL but couldn't find the right shade so switched back to BM Matte, which is same texture as LL but in better range of colours.

I tried every single LL blusher and couldn't find anything I liked, so back to BM.

I also don't like LL finishing powder as it's shiny, plus chalky. BM Mineral Veil original is too chalky for me, but I now use their Tinted MV which is fab.

I dont like or use BM brushes, and I dont buff as this shows up any fine lines, but that's me, I don't particularly like medium to heavy coverage anyway.

IN summary: you need to try samples of both and see, LL you can get samples sizes of but not BM, but you can get trial kits on ebay?

ScarfOfSexualPreference · 10/04/2012 17:36

I got a sample, two actually, of Bare Minerals from the counter in a department store. (Bentalls, should you be close to Kingston!). I got samples of Lily Lolo from their site, I got about 5 colours plus a bronzer, a finishing powder, something else- basically one of everything they did sample size, £1.39 each! I've not really played with them all yet as I'm away, I just grabbed one to take with me and my brush. So I can't recommend one or the other, but I can say you can get samples! I also went into Bodyshop as the brush was recommended to me and tried the lightest shade they did- good coverage, from what I could see in the shop, but waaaay too orange for me!

KatieMiddleton · 10/04/2012 17:44

I'm Richmond way so Kingston very close but so is central London.

I'm very pale, a few freckles, the odd broken thread vein around nose, shadows on inside corner of eye, some redness, no wrinkles and generally clear complexion although quite sensitive. I want to be able to get ready and go super quickly. The adverts for Sheer Cover look amazing and Emma Forbes is very glossy I understand - but is it all hype? (obviously some of it is!)

I try to avoid Nestlé so no Body Shop, L'Oreal or similar for me.

Obviously this is not very important. It is extremely trivial but I am still grateful for all replies :)

Is Bodyshop Nestle?!?!!?!?!?!?!!!? L'Oreal?

KatieMiddleton · 10/04/2012 19:34

:( yes. And Biotherm and Lancôme and Garnier and Helena Rubenstein and loads of others.

MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 19:40

Body Shop is owned by L'Oreal, completely separate from Nestle

They own the others mentioned above - where did Nestle come from???

MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 19:41

ooops meant to say, 99% of beauty brands on the ground floors of dept stores are either L'Oreal or Estee Lauder (Bobbi Brown is EL, as is Clinique, Creme de la Mer........)

MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 19:42

Bare Minerals I think was recently bought out by Shiseido group (or a Japanese one)

hermioneweasley · 10/04/2012 19:48

I have used BM and LL and I think LL just has the edge

KatieMiddleton · 10/04/2012 19:49

Nestlé own L'Oreal. Any how I just want to know which of the brands listed in the op is the best :)

OP posts:
CoffeeRevel · 10/04/2012 19:49

Have to say I've recently switched to BM and love it, in the interests of balance!

neuroticmumof3 · 10/04/2012 19:54

I have used BM and LL and prefer LL. I haven't tried SC but their adverts are very convincing.

MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 19:59

KatieM, they have shares in the business that's all - do you really not use anything made my L'Oreal then?
Just curious as I don't but because of the ingredients

willybreeder · 10/04/2012 22:12

Oh now I'm curious, what are the ingredients in L'Oreal that put you off?
I've tried both mineral make-up company's mentioned and prefer lily Lo, I like their range of shades and it's a bit cheaper. Be careful of the sample pots as they leak!

MissFoodie · 10/04/2012 22:16

Don't use anything with silicone, mineral oil or parabens

SuePoiblybilt · 10/04/2012 22:25

I avoid 'em cos of their animal testing policies but I've also heard people boycott because of their support of Israeli apartheid in Palestine. And yes, the Nestle thing. Pick your reasons, really Grin

that may have changed though

Also Ralph Lauren, Lancome, Vichy, Cacharel, Giorgio Armarni (perfumes only I think for him and Ralph) and Maybelline.

KatieMiddleton · 10/04/2012 22:39

Yup I really do although I do have a large can of Elnett hairspray that will probably last until I die. I admit the Maybelline thing is a bitch. Their mascara is very good and relatively inexpensive. I have a thing for premium brands so it's fairly to easy to avoid them... and I don't really like cereal.

I would be delighted if Nestlé sold up all their shares in beauty companies that I like and invested in arms and tobacco instead. Much easier to boycott Grin

I am still none the wiser which to choose. I feel I may be a sucker for wanting to believe the sheer cover hype. This is what happens when you stay up working late. You start believing the infomercials Hmm
