Awkward time of year! Tights or no tights to a wedding reception?......

And should you ever wear black to a wedding?

Firstly, i'm really strapped for cash at the minute so it's kind of a case of tarting up what I already have, but what I already have isn't really much. I have 2 options.

Option 1- Little black dress with black or nude tights and nude heels. My legs are really pale so i'd really rather not bare them. I've run out of my body foundation and I HATE fake tan. Can you get away with nude tights? The problem with wearing tights with this dress, is that it makes my figure look really bumpy. Could really do with a body sculpter actually.

Option2- Short black skirt, red top and again, black or nude tights, same shoes. I told you I didn't have much.Sad

Would love to be able to go out and do a much needed clothes shop, but I really can't justify it right now, so these are really my only options.

Or, if anyone has heard of a super bargain of a dress for no more than about £20 which might be suitable for a wedding, i'd be really grateful. I'm a size 10 and I have long legs which I don't mind showing off, but I have a high waist and a bit of a tummy, so I'm not the easiest person to dress.

What does anyone think?

Thank you!

Nude tights are fine.

WHat are the charity shops like round your way? It can be amazing what you find sometimes - well worth a rake. They have started putting out their summer stuff now.

have you tried asos? lots of dresses there for under £20

JennyPiccolo · 09/04/2012 14:17

Boots do good nude body sculptor tights that go up to your boobs.

oreoaddict · 09/04/2012 14:23

Yeah I might give a few charity shops a go actually. So do you think black tights would be odd this time of year?

I haven't actually tried asos no. The only problem is, the wedding is on wednesday night, so I need next day delivery really.

Just tried on my little black dress again, to see if it still fits. It's definitely too short for no tights. Also, my only going out, fitted jacket is black too, so I probably need to steer away from black a little.

The problem I find with those kind of tights are they get rid of one problem, but give you another. Ie, they usually give me a better shape from the front, but more of a tummy from the side. Ideally, I'd like on of those body sculpting things which just go round your tummy.

Definitely try charity shop. What about some lacy colored leggings? New look and primary have them. Some lovely dresses in Asda which would look nice with a blazer. I get loads off eBay and often get compliments on how dressed up I am on a day to day basis. I know eBay no good for a wedding on Wednesday but for bargains it's excellent. I am seriously into layering at the mo too, as I am getting older I dress how I want. Ignore fashion. Wear what suits you. Maxi dress would be lovely for a wedding and help out with the bare legs thing. I have several and wear them a lot. Have a great day.

Get some nude control top tights there are loads around

All your bases covered then

I just bought a coral, fitted dress from New Look for a wedding reception - it was £23 which I thought was a bargain!
It's high necked, just above the knee with ruching at the side which I liked as have a 17 week bump. Thought may disguise my tum a bit after baby too!

celticlassie · 09/04/2012 15:07

Lacy or coloured tights are a really good idea as they're fashionable just now and will solve the bare legs problem while brightening up a black dress.

trixymalixy · 09/04/2012 15:10

Dorothy Perkins are doing 25% off at the moment and have some lovely dresses for under £30

oreoaddict · 09/04/2012 15:49

Thanks everyone! trixy, i'm actually a huge Dorothy Perkins fan! They do lovely day dresses don't they. The website's great, but going in store is a different matter obviously cos they have limited space, but then my local one is pretty small.

I like the idea of lacy or coloured tights celtic. I suppose with it being a short black dress, I need to be careful not to go too lacy otherwise it might look a little.................hookerish?.. Not a good lookConfusedGrin

ClaireAll · 09/04/2012 19:20
