I am speechless OP
What on earth are you doing?

I cannot remember the last time I changed my razor which is possibly a Venus Divine or something- I got a pack of either 3 or 5.

It lasts for months and months.

I do my legs roughly once a week or two weeks in winter, more in summer and pits 2-3 x a week.

I think you are confused- the blades cannot possibly be blunt- maybe you are just shaving the wrong way somehow or not lubricating your skin- do you use shaving gel or soap?

Razors and dry skin are bad news.

I very rarely shave above my knee Blush A razor can last me months! I will admit to having fair hairs on my legs but they still seem hairy to me!

flightofthe7millionbumblebees · 05/04/2012 10:02

I rarely shave above the knee as the hairs there are fine and transparent, though getting more noticeable as I get older I think. I use venus razor blades and each blade lasts around a month. I shave every other day - on the second day the hairs aren't visible but my legs do feel a bit like sandpaper... I have a friend who reckons she needs to shave her legs twice a day to keep them smooth, so hairyness is obviously variable, as this thread has shown!

DonkeyTeapot · 05/04/2012 10:18

I use an Intuition, with the block of moisturising stuff so I don't need shave gel. It lasts ages, I change it when the block of stuff is gone. I used to use a mens Mach 3 and am thinking about going back to it, the intuition is good but it's a bit massive and clumsy for doing tricky areas.

I would never dream of wearing a skirt in public with unshaven legs - I used to know a girl who was so blonde you couldn't see any leg hairs - until the sun shone and then her legs had a lovely halo effect.

Hey Starlight,

it's EandZ!

Hope you and your family are well :).

On my high street there is a day spa that is doing a deal, which is a six month membership. You pay £150.00 a month for six months and you can have unlimited beauty treatments. Waxing and laser hair removal are included as are massages, manicures, pedicures and facials. I've been a member since December and it's the best thing that has ever happened to me.

If it's something you are interested in, let me know and I'll give you more info.

xx

I use one and it lasts several uses
I have thick dark hair
I also find it grows quickly. I can shave my legs in the morning and if I get goosepimples in the afternoon they feel stubbly again. Always feel stubbly again the next day
But still only one razor

MerlinFromCamelot · 05/04/2012 11:52

Am I the only one who uses Veet hair removing cream? I do wax but only before I go on hols. I always believed shaving make the hair ticker?

StarlightMcEggsie · 05/04/2012 12:11

Amelia, I have very oily skin and use baby shampoo, usually but tbh I have no brand loyalty and use whatever. It doesn't make ANY difference except if I use nothing then they blunt faster.

I consider myself to be quite hairy and manage to use one razor for a good few goes before changing it. You could try trimming with an electric shaver first so that the hairs are more like short stubble before you actually shave. That would probably reduce your clogging issues.

For those that are making remarks about silverbacked gorillas, trolls, hedges and the like, I wonder how you would feel if someone made a similarly mocking remark about something you couldn't help? I often feel quite miserable about being hairy and it affects my confidence. I wouldn't expect the thoughtlessness of comments I've read on here outside of the school yard. If someone came on here with a dilemma about their weight or skin for example, would you make derogatory or teasing comments about these things. You would probably think better of it, even if they were comments meant in good humour

ameliagrey · 05/04/2012 12:38

well, I can't believe that a razor goes blunt after 1 use. That's just daft. Sorry but I think you are imagining it.

Secondaly, shampoo is not the best thing to use on your skin. It will be drying- even baby shampoo- and it won't help the blade to glide over the hairs.

Shaving gels for women lather up in a very diffferent way to shampoo and rather than swapping razors, you should try using a product meant for shaving.

Ephiny · 05/04/2012 14:21

I am by no means 'hairless' but can still easily shave legs and pits (several times) without changing the razor. I can't believe that's necessary.

I think waxing or epilating is better if you're quite hairy (or dark-haired) though. I don't find epilating painful now I do it regularly. And with the amount you must be spending on disposable razors, it'd probably be worth investing in an epilator or regular waxing at a salon instead!

Havingkittens · 05/04/2012 14:49

I don't know about waxing or epilating. It depends on the individual, obviously. Personally I get really bad ingrown hairs from both. As far as Veet is concerned, it leaves stubble on me. Starlight, you might have more luck than me. Although I suspect epilating, even without the excruciating pain, could prove to be tricky whilst pregnant.

Bunbaker · 05/04/2012 14:57

Waxing and epilating give me terrible ingrown hairs even though I exfoliate. Veet gives me a rash, so shaving is the only realistic option for me. Also, waxing doesn't last long for me and it starts getting expensive.

Ephiny · 05/04/2012 15:01

Yes I do get a few ingrown hairs with epilating too, though I seem to remember getting some from shaving as well.

Tbh I haven't found any perfect method - shaving is quick and simple, but needs doing every day if you've got dark thick hair. Waxing can be messy and expensive and while I can do legs myself I've never got the hang of doing my own armpits or 'bikini' area so it would mean a salon trip. Epilating is slow and can hurt. The hair removal creams aren't great if you have sensitive skin, and the results don't last any longer than shaving anyway.

If I had fine or fair hair I think I'd just leave it alone. Don't really feel I can do that as I am though :(

Pinkflipflop · 05/04/2012 15:13

Maybe look into laser? I keep lusting after the Philips lumea but it is £££

To answer your questions the Gillette Venus lasts me months.

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 05/04/2012 15:14

I bought a new razor recently, a cheap mens one in Boots and noticed that it said touching the blades or wiping excessively can blunt them. So try to rinse without rubbing your fingers over the blades - that could help.

I actually find it hard to understand why people use disposable razors - you are throwing away so much plastic, why not just replace the blades? The one I got was about £2.50 and came with 3 twin blades which I think are better quality than on disposable razors.

bronze · 05/04/2012 15:14

Wonder if the lumea is something people could get together to buy, sisters who live close for example

2ombie5layer · 05/04/2012 15:18

I shave once a week and use the ones where you dont need foam/gel as they have that moisturiser thing round the blades (sorry cant remember the brand). One blade lasts me about a month or so. I only shave to the knee (and the one hair I get on my chin Blush) In summer/warmer weather I shave my armpits a couple of times a week. I use a different one for my lady bits every 4 weeks or so (or whenever I get round to it)

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 05/04/2012 15:27

Blimey OP, are you a Yeti?

StarlightMcEggsie · 05/04/2012 15:32

I've looked into laser but there is no way I could afford it. I must have literally a thousand hairs in one square inch. It woukd take forever too.

As I said the mens bic twin are good. I use two per session (one if I'm not that fussed and wearing tights over or something. Have to get a really close shave between my legs because I'm curved and thighs rub together (not especially thin now but when I was they still did) and make the skin raw and sore.

Another one here for one razofr which lasts months. I have no visible hair above the knee Hmm ...even very sparse in the old girly bits (grey sadly)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/04/2012 16:11

@starlight: I have never got on with standard shaving gels/foams either.

I use Lush Prince, it's meant for men with "thick, curly beards" and it's got something posh in it that actually softens the hair. Is very, very, very good and non-irritating.

May I also reccomend investing in a more premium razor like the Venus, it will probably last you a bit longer than the cheapos, false economy and all that...

saggarmaker WTF? Did you read my earlier post?

Why is it ok to make these kind of remarks when it would be deemed horribly bitchy to say something to that effect if a person were overweight, or had chronic eczema or something? Would you go up to an overweight person and say "are you jabba the hut or something?" for example? (disclaimer - that was only to draw a parallel, not something I would actually say).

Honestly, it really fucks me off!

Ryoko · 05/04/2012 17:01

Bloody hell, my Mach 3 blades last about three go's of the legs, pits and fanny.
Tho I don't tend to use it on the legs anymore I got an epilator for that.
