H&M Sizing??

OhCobblers · 29/03/2012 16:40

I've got a pair of size 12s which don't fit.
I'm definitely overweight so need to lose a bit before i can do the zip up but bought them because they fab and my motivation to keep going with the weight loss.

However, having held them up to my other size 12s they still look rather small and i don't want to lose out on buying the the next size up if they generally come up small in most clothing anyway??!!!

Thoughts?!

They used to do proper sizes, but I'm pretty certain they make things smaller than the actual size nowadays. I haven't been able to wear any of their stuff for ages.

SpottyDottyPinkDress · 29/03/2012 16:48

I think they are very inconsistent in H&M, I can be anything from an 8 to a 14 in there. Even if I am buying the same top in two colours I always try both colours on, even if they both say '10' on them because I've been caught out in there too often.

the idea of wearing a larger size is going to depress me though as i've lost so much weight over the last 10 years!!!

I usually need a size large in H&M and it is sooo depressing.

However their clothes are nice, and cheap, so I just cut the labels out :o

sorry, larger, not large

OhCobblers · 29/03/2012 17:14

I've just looked at their Size Guide and the waist for a Size 12 measures at 28 1/2 inches. I definitely need the next size up which measures at 30inches - much more realistic for me even with weight loss!!!

I had a pair of trousers that were a size 14 and a European size 40
Most shops have 14 as equivalent to a 42, so I do think they size smaller than average.

I am mid Diet and fit my ancient top shop skinny jeans in a 14, which I used to think were a small 14. But I have a H & M dress in a 14 that I can't even do up yet. In other shops I can wear a 12 on some dresses. I have a skirt from there in a 16 which depressingly still fits whereas I have had to get rid of all my other 16s from other shops and most of the 14s too. I think H & M sizes are probably more correct and the other shops vanity size.

GoblersKnob · 29/03/2012 17:43

i think they are just inconsistent, jeans and trousers I think some up small, but some of their tops and dresses come up correct or large (and some are tiny).

I have a dress and trousers that are size 10 and shirts that are 16!!! They are very inconsistent! I'm a 10 in other shops.
