If you had dark hair that was showing strands of grey, could you put a semi permanent light brown on, that would cover the grey but not affect your natural colour, thereby giving you instant highlights? If so, what is the best semi brand that will cover greys. Thanks.

Not sure if it would do that, think it would be asking a lot for it to be strong enough to fully colour without changing the other colours! I just went for a permanent colour when the greys came through, a slightly more vibrant version of my normal colour (Garnier Nutrisse, was called Capuccino but I think they've changed the names)

I have tried that. It doesn't wash out and the grey still shows through.

Well I've recently used what is supposed to be a medium brown semi and it is practically black! And there's no sign of it fading yet... Unless you want to go lighter a semi is fine, permanents still fade anyway, but I would suggest your idea of going light brown would be best as they tend to come out darker. And semis can only make it darker, they can't lighten.

Oh,excellent question,captain!

I'm no help I'm afraid, but interested to know as that'd be a lovely look for Summer.

Thanks for the replies, I was looking for a natural, cheap way of covering the grey without changing my natural colour. Going down the professional highlights route will prove regularly expensive I fear. Maybe I'll give it a go and let you all know how it went!
