Please help, need a smart casual work wardrobe...

I have a new job to start Monday, and the dress code is smart casual. When I was interviewed (think more chat than interview) the company owner wore what looked to be fairly trendy jeans with a smart shirt. Sadly I didn't get the chance to see what the others in the office were wearing. I have worked from home for about 8 years up to now, and so can do smart (with much angst beforehand) or very casual (my preferred style), but struggle with smart casual. I think jeans with a smart top will be OK, or a not so smart top with work-type trousers.
I am a fairly flat chested pear shape, who I think suits most colours apart from red/orange/yellow, and can't afford to spend too many £££ at this point, but would love any suggestions you can give me.
Thanks a million Smile

Congratulations on the new job! I'm not much help on the 'what to buy and where from' front but I'd be inclined to get by for the first week with clothes I already had in my wardrobe. Starting off smartly on day one and perhaps getting more casual as the week wears on, if that's the norm. I guesse I'd be a bit wary of buying a new wardrobe on the basis of one meeting with the boss because it may have been, say, a dress-down day or perhaps the boss gets away with wearing jeans but the other employees are expected to look smarter. So, I'd probably wait until I'd finished my first week and I'd have a better view of the lie of the land. That said, you know the industry better than I do, so maybe jeans is the way to go. I'm sure others will be along in a minute to give sytle advice. Good luck with the new job - hope it all goes well.

I agree with dix I went to "meet the team" today wearing wht I thought was a very smart/casual outfit (younger, trendy sister in same profession approved) but when I got there everyone was in dreary black....I think I blinded everyone with my brights!start restrained and then gradually go for it.
