So, according to the radio this morning, if you're a woman over 40 you shouldn't be wearing jeans, leggings, short skirts, red lipstick, red nails or fake eyelashes. I am now undecided whether to continue with the 'mutton dressed as' look or buy some cord slacks Hmm

Here are some lovely slacks for you Sparklegeek!

AgathaFusty · 19/03/2012 09:37

Oh.....

Well, I may have to join you with the cord slacks.

Which radio station, and where did they dredge that little gem up from?

anniewoo · 19/03/2012 09:39

I truly don't believe in 'mutton dressed as lamb' - you have one life- wear what you want if it looks good on you and enjoy it - you'll be a long time dead!!!

Sparklegeek · 19/03/2012 09:39

It was Heart FM. They were discussing it as apparently Joan Collins came out with the jeans gem, so then they got listeners to ring in with their big no-nos for 40 plus women. I was v surprised bikinis didn't make it onto the list too, unless I missed that when I went off to gasp! put some blusher on Hmm

What about this lovely skirt

Sparklegeek · 19/03/2012 09:44

Oh FFS, those M & S clothes Grin I'm not embracing being 40 as it is (b'day was 3 weeks ago) & this isn't helping...

maybe it's just a given that no-one over the age of 25 wears any type of swimwear Grin

Poodlehorse · 19/03/2012 09:48

I've seen a post 40 Joan Collins in jeans, she did look crap but that was more because it was accompanied by full on makeup as usual and they were old style highwaisted things. She is talking crap, totally agree with anniewoo. I may not wear the same cut of jeans etc but I will still wear them, along with bikinis, short skirts, red anything I want and false eyelashes if I ever get the hang of applying them. I am not ready for the Slimma slacks just yet...and pray I never will be. That is just giving up.

AgathaFusty · 19/03/2012 09:56

Wasn't there a picture of the unnaturally young looking Joanie in the papers last week wearing a particularly unflattering pair of jeans (and displaying a full-on muffin top)?

startail · 19/03/2012 10:07

Oh bugger, I can't take back my lovely soft new Great Plains leggings. I wore them yesterday.

futterbingers · 19/03/2012 13:35

Jeez, I'm 50 and I've a drawer full of leggings and jeans; Last week I was trying to decide what to wear and went through everything, I could've cried because now that I'm older, my weight seems to be distributing itself differently, my shape has changed and nothing looks good. Seriously, what can I wear that won't look like those appalling slacks or whatever? To add insult to injury, I have bunions so I have to wear "comfy" shoes, so no more beloved heels. Sob.

AgeingFop · 19/03/2012 15:24

What a load of bollocks! Wear what you like and enjoy it! I do.

gilmoregirl · 19/03/2012 15:36

Has nothign to do with age.

Someone of 60 could look great in jeans / leggings etc and someone of 20 could look awful.

I intend to wear what suits me whatever age I am Smile

As a 38 year old I suit short skirts but not bikinis and I am sure I still will at 40!
