Makeup brushes for a complete novice!

I've been using the same eyeshadow brush since I was a teen- just a cheapy one from a kit from superdrug or similar. It's soft and the hairs don't come out, that's all I know! I think I want to upgrade to, well, something new! I need some advice- are makeup brushes one of the things you should 'invest' in, get expensive ones that will last a lifetime? Or just get whatever, and buy them regularly? No idea!

I can't spend much, any recommendations welcome. I'm looking at this set, is that too cheap to be good? I can go a bit higher, that was just from looking at ebay!

I use my old touche eclat brushes for lip gloss that come in little pots- i hate dipping my fingers in to sticky stuff Grin i find them better than the little fecky lip brushes you can buy

MissFoodie · 18/03/2012 11:35

havingkittens it was you that made me buy my set :) it's fab, especially the powder and blusher brushes.

however i separately bought their flat topped buffing brush and it really sheds :(

anniewoo what a bloody good idea to use the touche eclat brushes. I have some washed and put away and think I may be using them for coloured balm ...

anniewoo · 19/03/2012 09:33

Pluckingupcourage i use them with my Mac lip balm and Models Own lip balm both products i love ( both are coloured)

am currently wearing korres balm applied with touche eclat brush (twirl)

Urban Decay Big Buddha brush - brilliant for bronzer. Might be discontinued in storesbut can be got online/ebay i think

anniewoo · 19/03/2012 21:17

Korres lip balm will be my next lip balm when my mac and model's own run out. No crap (bad chemicals) in Korres i think.i like the deep plum shade

I have the Korres pomegranate lip balm - lovely and natural (and smells amazing) but it is a bit meh that you keep having to put your finger in it to scoop it out - touch eclat brush to the rescue!

I bought a Bobbi Brown blusher brush a month ago- almost fainted at spending £35 on it but it makes such a difference- compared to the Body Shop one I've had for yonks.
it diffuses the colour more easily so that you can build it up and it looks softer.

I might buy a couple of their eye shadow brushes then that will be all I need.

Bobbi brown good but pricey and Mac also. Body shop are ok. The best brushes have sable bristles apparently!
