highlights? yes or no?

I am having my hair done next week and I'm not sure what to ask for,I have long hair with layers cut into it and a fringe,I am a brunette and would possibly like some chestnut coloured highlights through the front.
Does this sound doable?
What would you ask for cos every time I try to say what I want it comes out wrong.

Take a photo with you and say to them I want to look like this. If you don't at the end then you don't pay. It works for me.
