Old Tigi product - can anyone help?

Back in the day pre DS when I was slim and groomed, bought ridiculously expensive beauty products and had smooth feet, a constant layer of juicy tubage on my lips and a social life [cue wistful emotion...], I used to use a gorgeous product by Tigi on my hair.

It came in a metal tin and smelt of oranges. It was a bit like gloopy vaseline and you rubbed a teeny tiny bit on dry hair to make it shine. If I remember correctly, they then changed the packaging so it was in an aluminium tubey-bottle type thing (mechanism bit like a pumping toothpaste but much smaller.)

It was lush.

I used to buy it at Essensuals. But it was about 12 years ago! Blush

I'm not sure what made me think of it. But now it's in my head I have the shopping urge. Any ideas of what it was and if they still do it...?

Perhaps if I start with my hair the grooming might make its way down to my toes, non...?

Do you recognise it here?
Tigi Although it doesn't seem to tell you there what smells of what.

Alternatively you could go into your local Capital Hair and Beauty if you have one. They sell the full range of Tigi and you could go and smell and poke and prod them all. You do have to be a member to buy but not to go in. Alternatively TK Maxx often have a lot of discontinued Tigi products.

Is this what you are thinking of?

Reminds me of ironing (yes, ironing!!) my hair with the girls before we headed out clubbing! Used to love the smell of it!

crazyaccountant · 14/03/2012 14:20

This is what it looked like last time I saw it, my hairdresser uses kerastase so not up to speed on the tigi products now!

If it is Shine Junkie then it's been discontinued. I loved that stuff, it smelt amazing and reminds me of my college days when I used to spend tons of money on Tigi products. When I had a pixie crop I used manipulator, that stuff is fab too.

LucyManga · 14/03/2012 15:35

Yep, just about to say - they discontinued Shine Junkie ages ago

Paul Mitchell does a version of it in a green and white bottle. Not quite as fab smelling, though.

Schmaffy · 14/03/2012 19:32

Yes, yes, yes crazyaccountant - that's it! Cannot believe it is now discontinued! Sob! Sad

How strange - I also used to iron my hair at the time. Was way, way before GHDs existed. I did have some straighteners that you added water to the a storage pod at the ends but they were, frankly, rubbish. Ironing hair gave the best results ever apart from to my ears which I accidently burnt a few times- ...

crazyaccountant · 14/03/2012 21:19

Ha I had a pair of them! What a load of shite they were! Who thought putting steam in the straighteners when trying to smooth frizzy hair was a good idea?! Life before GHD'S was no fun!
The closest I got to shine junkie was using afterparty on dry hair to smooth then spray on headrush shine spray, see on the link

flipflopflap · 15/03/2012 09:39

Haha I had those straighteners, they used to leak and drip water hot on me!

Crazyaccountant, Which is the best out of afterparty and headrush? I've overspent this month but think I'm going to end up ordering some Tigi products now!

vix1980 · 15/03/2012 09:44

Hi, do either of you have a tj hughes near to you (i know a lot closed down last year though).but they still sell it there, i was in the liverpool 1 on tuesday and always buy the honey and oatmeal shampoo and conditioner, they seem to sell quite a lot of the older tigi products, i love going in to just smell them! divine!

vix1980 · 15/03/2012 09:46

forgot to add if you do get to a tj hughes, the tigi stuff is usually 2 for £10, also try lookfantastic.com i used to order discontinued products there too

crazyaccountant · 15/03/2012 20:55

Flip it depends on your hairtype really, head rush spray is light if you spray a little from a distance so ok on fine hair for a night out doesn't go greasy, after party is heavier but again used sparingly ok, I used to have bleach highlights so straw like and hair could handle any products and used a lot of these two, I've now gone au naturel and grown my highlights out and my hair is v fine so I don't tend to use a lot of styling products now only when leaving it curly!

flavialee · 18/08/2012 11:31

I just love TIGI products

HildaHotPants · 18/08/2012 11:36

Back in the day, I used to have my hair done at Toni&Guy who used Tigi products in the salon. I used to scrunch my hair with a turquoisy blue leave-in conditioner.

Wish you could still get that, and of course Vidal Sassoon Almond flavoured shampoo and conditioner. Oh and while I'm here, Woodleigh Green - Apple shampoo. Yum. No wonder people used to sniff my hair a lot in the '70s and '80s.

Nikkiwasere · 27/08/2021 05:20
