Has anyone really changed their shape by doing Callanetics? Sounds too good to be true.

Because I've bought the DVD because I'm ever hopeful!

I can't complain about my weight, BMI is and has nearly always been 22 and although I'd like to be thinner I realise that with my big bone structure it's never really going to happen. But I reckon that with the right kind of exercise I might be able to change my shape a bit (thinner thighs and flatter tummy would be good).

My youngest is now old enough that I should have long ago done something about the tummy - it's not huge but as I'm flat chested I feel a flat tummy would enhance my whole figure.

So has anyone done Callanetics and is it as effective as it claims to be? Or can you recommend any other good exercise for reshaping?

Thanks

Super Callanetics is great and definitely a good idea if you've mastered the original and want to mix it up. I find it quite useful to mute the sound and play music too, helps with the boredom!

Abra1d · 26/06/2013 17:23

Oooh, must look at Super Callanetics. Yes, boredom can be the killer. So many repetitions and variations of repetitions.

CambridgeBlue · 30/06/2013 08:19

I managed to find the book yesterday after searching every charity shop in town. It'svery 80s (the same one I had back then in fact!) but if it works - which I might if I actually do it instead of just looking at the pictures - then I'll be happy.

Have just had a blast from the past with my callenetics DVD. (10in10). Am 8 weeks after baby2- have been gagging to excercise for ages as have been a blob of untoned wobble since the 1st baby. Love those 80s leotards!
I used to love Callenetics -just used to use the book. i was wondering if anyone who shared their measurements at the start of the thread fancy a little boast to inspire me to continue?

Ghostlife · 08/07/2015 01:13

I am just about to start 21 days of 10/10 Callanetics in the hope of seeing a huge difference.

gerbiltamer · 08/07/2015 18:12

Good luck. I will dig the book out of my parents' house.

Sillymegetsfit · 10/03/2016 01:54

I've just begun am/pm Callanetics this evening. I've been wanting to get back into shape after having my daughter but can't seem to take bouncy workout DVDs anymore! They just make me dread the whole process!
I've done Callanetics off and on the last 10 years and thought I should try again and really stick with it this time to see what happens. Glad to see others have had some luck :-)

gardenangels · 12/06/2016 19:29

I have just started daily Callanetics and low carb diet. Want to loose 3 stone in 4 months...

Judydreamsofhorses · 12/06/2016 19:45

I do the 20 minute DVD for hips/bum a few times a week - it definitely works. I did it every night until my saddlebags were noticeably reduced, then just maintenance afterwards. The chat on the DVD is hilarious, "you will have a behind like a 10 year old", and the like.

dementedma · 12/06/2016 19:55

They do work.i used to do them and they really did make a difference.
Still have the book so think will get onto it again.

Sillymegetsfit · 15/07/2016 23:40

Do you remember how long it took before you noticed a difference?
I'm in a total slump and need some motivation! Needless to say, I haven't been doing them faithfully since my last post :-(

il0vew1ne · 28/07/2016 10:14

Just bought this, hope it works anybody still doing this ?

Judydreamsofhorses · 28/07/2016 11:03

I'm still at it. I'm on holiday so doing four times a week just now. I'm a teacher so the long holidays can be dangerous in terms of eating and drinking too much - at least I will keep my "peachy behind"! It definitely works, you just need to persevere because it is very boring. I think a routine helps, so in term time I do it about 6pm when I've got in from work, Monday and Wednesday, before dinner, then it's just done and out of the way. I don't think I could be bothered with more than the "quick 20 minutes" so this works for me. (I usually do about 15,000 steps a day as well, it's not my only exercise.)

empower18 · 25/10/2018 23:01

poster nethunsreject: If Callanetics buggered up your back, you were not doing them correctly and/or you were pushing yourself. If you want to give them another try, make sure to start with a certified Callanetics instructor.

FloofyDoof · 26/10/2018 10:29

I have just ordered Callanetics for your back for a couple of quid on Amazon, in the hopes that it actually helps my back! Can't face doing measurements, but I am going to give it a go.

FloofyDoof · 26/10/2018 10:30

Oh. Zombie thread!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/10/2018 10:54

Ha, I was on this thread two years ago. Still at it. If I stop, my bum no longer looks like a ten year old’s. (Her words, not mine.) I do it twice a week, but just the 20 minute hips and behind DVD.

FloofyDoof · 26/10/2018 11:41

That sounds promising, my bum is currently about the size of a ten year old, a whole one Blush

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/10/2018 11:49

Ha, floofy I remember my mum going to actual classes when I was a child, then having VHS tapes she would do at home. I don’t remember what prompted me to get the DVD, but it really does work. I’m a hippy size 10/12, and if I do the DVD regularly I am no longer “wobbly” or “gushy” (wtf?). It is boring as hell to do once you have mastered it, so I tend to watch YouTube or Instagram stories while I do it and just have the DVD on in the background for timings.

So glad to have found this thread! Used to do hours and hours of Callanetics in the '80s and just received original book from Amazon. Want to start today and hopefully do an hour a day in the countdown to Christmas. Currently Size 16-18 and on a VLCD, so not much energy to be leaping about doing aerobics... Anyone interested in joining me?

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/11/2018 20:21

Is that what the do a lot in Australia?

GhostCurry · 09/11/2018 08:10

I found a video on YouTube with someone called Sandra Hannah - is that what I should be watching?

CremeDeSudo · 09/11/2018 12:33

Just place-marking..also in a VLCD so can't do my usual classes and on mat leave so would be good to find something I can do while the baby naps!

TheFabulist · 09/11/2018 20:59

Yes, it's what they do in Australia and Sandra Hannah has updated it a little but stays to the core principles of Callanetics. I did some the day before yesterday and boy do my stomach muscles feel it now!
This is actually the best exercise for VLCDers. Which one are you doing, Creme? I'm on Slim and Save x
