Has anyone really changed their shape by doing Callanetics? Sounds too good to be true.

Because I've bought the DVD because I'm ever hopeful!

I can't complain about my weight, BMI is and has nearly always been 22 and although I'd like to be thinner I realise that with my big bone structure it's never really going to happen. But I reckon that with the right kind of exercise I might be able to change my shape a bit (thinner thighs and flatter tummy would be good).

My youngest is now old enough that I should have long ago done something about the tummy - it's not huge but as I'm flat chested I feel a flat tummy would enhance my whole figure.

So has anyone done Callanetics and is it as effective as it claims to be? Or can you recommend any other good exercise for reshaping?

Thanks

So are there no online resources at all?

You could try here - it's a subscription channel, with a week's free trial. https://www.callanetics.tv/orders/checkout?c=25943

Callan Pinckney was notoriously protective of her work, copyrighting absolutely everything and refusing to publish her videos online. Sensible, really. I don't know how this Sandra person has managed it, but she does seem to be the only source of proper online Callanetics tuition.

Snap, @DollyPartonsBeard!

FlowerFlour · 07/04/2023 14:14

This really sounds like a miracle! I have done barre, yoga and the Shred before but never really saw big changes in my body. I have some big events this year and would love to tone up.

Will Callanetics work even if you split the workout? (i.e do 30 minutes one day and 30 the next - i cant commit to an hour every day)

Dutchland44 · 12/06/2023 19:26

Hi everyone,
Love this (old) threat. My mum passed away recently and I found her old Callanetics book. I remember her doing the exercises when she was about my age. I lost 4st and am left with wobbly everything and excess skin. Going in with no expectations, any changes would be awesome and make me happy.

BerryTrifle · 12/06/2023 22:23

Oh wow, I bought a Callanetics DVD on the back of the original part of this thread! I must dust it off!

This is the only work out I've ever done where my tummy felt different after just a couple of sessions. Not flat, not a six pack (!) but definitely coming together.

valiumredhead · 13/06/2023 14:41

I have just found the book on WOB and ordered it for 3.99. I've lost 3 stone and still going and things are beging to jiggle especially inner thigh area ! Hoping it will still be effective 30 years after I used to do 🤞😊

Dutchland44 · 13/06/2023 18:35

and the threat still continues… That’s awesome Berry. Good luck to you.

Valium, how did you do 30 years ago?
What changes did you notice?

Iceniii · 13/06/2023 21:20

I bought this book off the back of this thread when it was last resurrected. I did it for 3 days and never continued!

Well, I was much leaner generally as I was so young but it sucked me in in all the right places 🤣 We'll see how I do this time, there will be some excercise I won't be able to do do to a long term injury but others I'll be able to do for sure.

Dutchland44 · 13/06/2023 22:44

Ah right. Well, good luck to you too. Just done my first session. Not as easy as my mum made it out to be haha. Also some exercises I can’t do but just trying all I can. Would be nice to hear from you all in a week or so and hear how you’re getting on.

gardenangels · 13/06/2023 22:48

I am starting tomorrow. One session a day for 35 days...

Not easy at ALl, I remember that much!! Will update when book comes.

Peachlollipop · 14/06/2023 07:36

I’ve got a dvd. If I’m not too over heated, I will try it today. I badly need to start some regular exercise.

Dutchland44 · 14/06/2023 12:13

Kind of motivating that more people add to the threat and starting this. Wish you all good luck.

Peachlollipop · 14/06/2023 14:11

I just did a twenty minute tummy segment. I couldn’t do one of the exercises at all. I realised exactly how unfit and inflexible I am.

Catspyjamas17 · 14/06/2023 14:59

Callenetics sounds a bit daft and faddy, but you can't go wrong with callisthenics.

Basically body weight exercises - press ups, tricep dips, squats, lunges etc. Well I guess you can go wrong by doing too much too soon but they are things you can easily do at home, in the garden and do not need lots of space or equipment.

valiumredhead · 14/06/2023 16:54

It's not daft and faddy,it's very similar to pilates.

XingMing · 14/06/2023 21:23

Callanetics was never easy, not even when I was 35, and I am now 67. Pilates, well taught, is not dissimilar. It's not as quite as hard or quite as effective but it delivers 2/3rds of the package. Reformer Pilates does 90% of callanetics but because it is only ever 1-2-1 tuition, it is also much more expensive, at about £40 per hour.

Sorry to have to restart this zombie thread.

Just have to say how wonderful Callanetics is.
It is probably the most effective exercise for
tightening the body if done properly .
The one hour programme is a bit boring, but it works

@Lampzade interested in this. Have you joined a class or following an online one? If latter, any recommendations?

Witchyvibes · 17/12/2024 06:57

Thanks for reviving it!! I used to have the 10years/10 hours vid on YouTube, but now can't find it. Which one are you doing?

Agree, it works miracles!!

Lampzade · 17/12/2024 18:09

I have the 10 yrs/ 10hrs dvd.
They have taken the Callan Pinckney’s videos from YT and they can now be found on Callanetics TV
I pay £8 a month to watch a variety of videos including many of Callan Pinckney’s .

Witchyvibes · 06/10/2025 03:44

Started this today! Hour 1 done, so excited for big results! Does anyone else find it makes their body just feel good? Not sure how to explain it, but it’s like I’m stretchier or less tense….like all of me is relaxed (although I will no doubt wake up with immense muscle soreness!)

TheFabulist · 06/10/2025 07:49

Yes! Witchy, I know exactly what you mean.
