I bought an Lk Bennett dress in the sale to wear to a wedding and following a rule I'd heard about never wearing darker shoes than dress, bought nude-ish heels from Carvela which seem OK, I think . My dress is slightly darker purple than in the picture but you get the idea.

But now I need to find a pashmina or something similar in case it is chilly, a bag plus, I am guessing, a hat as I've read some of the fascinator threads and don't want naff .

No idea what colour to go with - stick with neutrals like the shoes or something else?

I am dark haired, olive- yellowy skin tone so all help very much appreciated.

Hi Ellen. You'd be surprised at how much colour you can get away with, provided the base is the same (i.e. blue based or yellow based - it'd be yellow for you with your skin) and the colour saturation level is the same. So probably no pastels or ice shades with this. Strong contrasts could be teal, mustard/gold, flamingo pink, jade. Softer contrasts might play with the nude, like a pale cinnamon or honey. All these shades have yellow in them, or more yellow than blue.

The usual colour advice is to wear three colours, at least one of them NOT being a neutral. So the nude/honey/purple look would be quite sophisticated. As your hat will probs be the most difficult thing to find, I'd start there.

Ooh, thanks so much, I was really torn about introducing more colour but they sound fab. I was toying with jades to add some brightness but I also picked up a gorgeous honey coloured wrap which looked fab so it seems like I might have been heading in the right direction. Off to look at hats now - hiring or buying, that's the next question!
