Buying make up on eBay- should I?

Is there such a thing as fake make up and brushes? If so how to avoid these? I'm looking at Benefit and Mac and Bobbi Brown mainly. There seem to be some really good ( too good?) deals to be had. Any advice?

Well yes there is lots of fake make up out there. I wouldn't touch cosmetics from eBay with a barge pole. What sort of prices are you talking about? What is the sellers feedback? And is the make up this season?

I have bought some urban decay eyeliners and they have been fine. I think often people buy 'sets' and then split them to sell on eBay.

I would stay away from MAC brushes as I read that the majority are fake on eBay. (but don't quote me) there is an article somewhere on eBay help about it. Smile

MAC and Benefit are very much faked on eBay. My friend is a serious make-up addict and has been stung more than once.

I've bought nail polish before from eBay and it's always been fine. Agree with checking the sellers feedback though.

I dont think you really even need to bother with ebay as even though there are fakes the prices on there are not always that competitive i use places like cheapsmells or type what you want into google & it normally brings up a lot of well priced things xx

No - cosmetics are not the greatest bargain on ebay. I've seen No7 stuff on there going for more than it costs in Boots - don't people even bother checking the Boots site? And I've been Shock to see partially used jars of face-cream and bottles of perfume on there.

On the other hand, it can be useful if you're after a discontinued lipstick or whatever.

I don't think you are allowed to sell used stuff now. Listings will be removed b

I bought some lovely Mac brushes on ebay - not fake as I have 'real' ones from Mac so can compare.

Lots of the sellers are make up artists or people who go to the states and bulk buy. I got an Urban Decay Naked palette for £18 instead of £40 because the cellophane wrapper ( that you take off anyway) was slightly torn and couldn't be sold as 'new.'

I've had lovely Clinique lipsticks at less than 1/2 price. I suspect they are bought by frequent travellers, maybe airline staff from US and sold on.
