I am stuck on choosing an engagement ring. We are married already btw and i have n 18 ct gold wedding ring. I love the mixed metal look and have seen a platinum ring with diamond set in 18 ct gold. I just want to ask if anyone else here has a combination like this and have they always stayed happy with their choiice? Thanks for any help.

My engagement ring is a mix of yellow and white gold, and I love it. The only thing to be careful of with mixed metals is that if there are any non-fixed pieces (eg the metals cross over) the harder metal will wear away the softer one. Also a platinum ring next to a gold ring will wear away at the gold ring. Your jeweller should be able to talk to you about it though. I think it's really a risk with highet carat golds, as they are softer.

Thanks hopefully, i have spoken to the jeweller about wear, but the wear will not be much more than if i get a gold eng. ring i can turn the ring for even wear also.

this is pretty much what the ring would look like. My band is by the same jeweller so has the same look.

I have a gold wedding ring which DH bought me the the day before we married in Oxford Street. We had forgotten. It was £19. We didn't have much money.Smile

I lost my god engagement ring in pretty difficult circumstances about 8 years ago. For our 20th wedding anniversary he bought me a beautiful platinum solitaire ring.
The two together suit me perfectly. They sum up our life really - the path we have trod together. I wouldn't change either and they look lovely.
