Fancy dress

Hi Ladies not sure where is best to put this!
I am going to a fancy dress dinner/party next month and the theme is the oscars.
Has anyone got any ideas who I can go as? I'm 5'3 with light brown hair but won't say no to wearing a wig. I'm 23 by the way in case that helps? I don't suppose it has to be a winner being nominated should be enough or even an actress/character from a film that won best film? I'm not too hot on my films especially Oscar nominated films so really need help!! So far I have thought of Kate winslet, titanic. Cate Blanchett, Elizabeth. Mary poppins. Please help! Thanks in advance

How about Liza Minelli a-la Cabaret?

Depends on how brave you're feeling though Smile

Or a bit more current - Natalie Portman in Black Swan?

Both v easily recognisable costumes and not too hard to put together, but a bit different...

badtasteflump · 07/03/2012 10:00

Sorry - should be Minnelli Blush

socialdilemma · 07/03/2012 10:02

Gwynneth Paltrow in pink strapless dress and scraped back hair and sobbing?

Sorry cant open link on my phone. What film?
I thought of black swan but my friend is already doing that, and another is doing girl from Chicago.
I'm not normally a fan of fancy dress but do still want to do it properly.
Thanks

Judy Garland? (Can you spot the theme here?!).

Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady.

Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music.

And was thinking of Cabaret, not Chicago Smile

badtasteflump · 07/03/2012 10:32

Oops slightly enormous link there! Grin

iloveminieggs · 07/03/2012 10:35

I would say yes, but going to say no as it is a work party with some of my customers there. If it was just friends yes but I really don't fancy having to wear that surrounded by my colleagues (and percy customers)! Any more?

iloveminieggs · 07/03/2012 18:06

Thanks for your ideas. What about Audrey Hepburn? Kind of like the idea of just wearing a black dress! I want to be comfy for dinner and dancing

OP posts:
CeliaFate · 07/03/2012 18:15

I'd go with Audrey - Pearls, updo, cigarette in a holder, long black dress. Sorted!

TheSmallClanger · 07/03/2012 18:28

1920s theme - character from The Artist?

UntamedShrew · 07/03/2012 19:04

Any long black dress & stick your leg out à la Jolie..?

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 07/03/2012 19:17

Miss piggy surely? I would totally go as her but I wouldn't need a costume sob

iloveminieggs · 07/03/2012 19:29

Celiafate that is what I was thinking exactly!

OP posts:
iloveminieggs · 10/03/2012 19:32

Badtasteflump and a few of my friends suggested black swan what should I wear? Someone else is now Audrey Hepburn.
