I have combination type skin. Does anyone know of any good mineral makeup brand?
I'm looking for a mineral foundation or pressed powder.

bare minerals is the best one, go for a test in a dept store

CuriousMama · 06/03/2012 23:37

This one's good and not too expensive.

ggirl · 06/03/2012 23:39

i have combination skin and i wear bare minerals matte foundation.. brilliant stuff

some prefer lily lolo which has it's own website and is only available online but they do sell cheap little samples

MissFoodie · 06/03/2012 23:52

I used both and prefer BM - maybe try both and see which you prefer
I dont use primer and dont use their brushes either

Choclatespread · 07/03/2012 11:19

Thanks for the link, very useful.
Does anyone know if bare minerals test on animals, as I've read some reviews about that, and that was the only thing that concerned me. I'm not sure if this is true.

I have the little samples of lilylo, they last ages.

DinahMoHum · 07/03/2012 16:31

lily lolo

RatDesPaquerettes · 07/03/2012 16:34

I got two little samples from Lilylolo. At £1.29, they are great value and last ages as Curious said.

Choclatespread · 07/03/2012 20:21

Where can I get the samples from, I've been looking on the net but couldn't find any.

OP posts:
ggirl · 07/03/2012 20:22

i couldn;t find them either
you click on sizes and the option for sample size comes up

gregssausageroll · 07/03/2012 20:25

I ordered lily logo yesterday. Just go to foundation and pick your colour. It will give you a drop down of full size or sample size.

Choclatespread · 07/03/2012 20:36

Ok let me try. Thanks.

I just ordered 3 more lilylolo samples. They're great for holidays. I even use them as under eye cover and am sensitive usually but not with these.

Choclatespread · 07/03/2012 21:27

I have Worked out how to get the samples, but do I need to spend a certain amount to get the free delivery, and will they despatch 2/3 samples?
Also how are the sample shades coming up, are they lighter than they are showing, darker or about the right shade?

Choclatespread · 07/03/2012 21:28

How would you apply the samples, do you just use your fingertips, or are you using a special brush?

OP posts:
OhThisIsJustGrape · 07/03/2012 22:03

You need a kabuki brush preferably to apply the powder. Look on you tube for videos on how to apply minerals, there is a certain knack to getting it right.

You need to tip a little bit of powder into the lid (the sample lids aren't big enough for this so you'll need to improvise for something bigger - a saucer would do!) swirl the brush in the powder until it has absorbed the powder right up into the bristles. You then tap the brush to shake off the excess powder and apply to your face in a swirling motion, buffing the powder onto your skin. 'Swirl, Tap, Buff' Grin. You need to buff really thoroughly to avoid the powdered old lady look!

It takes a bit of practice to work put how many layers you'll need, depending on coverage, but I've been using Lily Lolo for 6 months now and don't think I'll ever go back to liquid foundation.

OhThisIsJustGrape · 07/03/2012 22:06

Oh, meant to add that I don't think LL offer free delivery - I spent £25 on there today and didnt get offered any Hmm. They will despatch as many samples as you want.

I think their colours on the website are fairly true to life. They have a Facebook page where you can ask questions, or you can phone/email them and they'll advise you on which shade will suit you best.

autumnchild · 07/03/2012 22:09

Another Lily lolo fan here - have ultra sensitiv e skin and this works a treat. also they are cruelty free

Choclatespread · 07/03/2012 22:12

Ah thanks for all the advice. I think I might call them tomorrow, just to get some more information on the shades, as I have no clue what colours to go for. I suppose that's the whole point of testers. Thanks

The free delivery is for orders over £50.
I missed the small print( actually it's not very small, I must have been tired)

I get my Bare Minerals from QVC and I would defo advise using the Primer underneath the foundation. It was the best foundation I have ever used.
Since getting pregnant though it seems that the Mineral Make up doesnt agree with my skin and just slides off as soon as I apply so ive had to switch to a liquid again which gives fuller coverage to cover my breakouts.

MissFoodie · 08/03/2012 11:24

QVC is good if you're buying a kit, otherwise its cheaper from feelunique.com

Choclatespread · 08/03/2012 13:19

Grapes You get the free eye blending brush when you spend over £25.00.

OP posts:
OhThisIsJustGrape · 08/03/2012 13:29

Oh bugger, my order came to £24.98 :(. Didn't see anything about a free brush, mind you I do already have one so don't need another lol!

Did you call them? They're really helpful, I wasn't brave enough to phone but emailed them and they responded straight away.

CuriousMama · 08/03/2012 13:43

Ermm I put it on with my fingers Blush googling brush now
