I've just bought 2 dresses from Laura Ashley and I need you all to tell me I was right to do so...

As I should be saving my money!

They were these:

www.lauraashley.com/dresses/apple-print-cotton-shirt-front-dress/invt/md785/

I can wear that for work, or casually and it was the one I was actually going in to buy, but then I saw this one and even though I'm not sure when I will wear it, it fitted SO nicely and it is SO pretty

To be fair I only bought one, DP said he'd buy one for me as an early mothers day present and I didn't want to argue.

Not sure really why I posted, just wanted justification really :)

Love the apple print one.

SarahSlaughter · 03/03/2012 19:14

I think these are both very pretty.

Whether you can afford them... only you know I'm afraid.

sheeplikessleep · 03/03/2012 19:18

Why should you be saving money?

WowOoo · 03/03/2012 19:20

Totally justified. Am quite tempted by the apple one myself. Both lovely.

Squitch · 03/03/2012 19:30

Oh no mad emergency saving or anything and I can afford them (in a I haven't gone into my overdraft or overspent on my credit card type of way) - but I don't generally go and blow £150 on a couple of dresses

Just felt a bit guilty (no idea why)

They're lovely.

(Your profile pix are lovely too, by the way.)

Dilligaf81 · 03/03/2012 19:38

I think they are both lovely and although you could get similar cheaper you cant argue with the LA quality and as they are too 'now' will last for years.

Keep them both - plus ones a gift.

JasperJohns · 03/03/2012 19:39

I love the apple one!

mirpuppet · 03/03/2012 19:50

I would say if you are having a twinge - return the dress you are not sure where you will wear it to. It may just hang in the closet.

Stylelostinlabour · 03/03/2012 19:51

I saw a young girl in the shop today with the apple dress on and thought how lovely it was she was about 20 and looked great in it

Squitch · 03/03/2012 19:59

Oh dear Stylelostinlabour - I'm nearly 40, however I am also completely in denial and so I'm sure I will also look great!

Mirpuppet - I know you're right, but I also have a horrible suspicion that if I do that it will forever be 'that dress I returned' I'm sure I will wear it, especially in the summer (has visions of floating about the garden drinking pimms in it avoiding dog shit)

Both very pretty but my only qualm about the 2nd one is that it is polyester. So, sticky and sweaty in summer and polyester shouldn't cost £75.

You may have found dresses that look as nice in H&M but the quality is shite.

ninah · 03/03/2012 20:16

yup was going to say Shock at £75 for polyester

suburbandream · 03/03/2012 20:19

I went into Laura Ashley recently - hadn't been in there for ages but they have some lovely stuff at the moment. The apple dress is really cute. I do think they are a tad expensive but I got a couple of nice tops in the sale Smile

KurriKurri · 03/03/2012 20:28

I think they are both lovely. I might ditch the belt on the bird print one, and put a belt of my own with it instead, but if you like the belt it comes with, -IMO it looks better tied at the back. Smile

Squitch · 03/03/2012 20:29

It doesn't feel like polyester

I know what you mean though, which is why I got the jitters a bit, but about a year ago I saw the PERFECT coat in Phase8. I tried it on, it fitted beautifully, I ummed and ahhed and decided I'd get it another week. It DIDN'T EXIST! I went back to JL and the assistant couldn't remember it at all. I checked the JL website and the Phase 8 website and it wasn't there. I dream about that bloody coat. That dress has the same potential!

enjoy Grin

JoannaLumpy · 03/03/2012 20:34

I like the caption on your mirror Grin

VeryStressedMum · 03/03/2012 20:39

I like them.

BikeRunSki · 03/03/2012 20:49

You're making me feel better about buying a new coat. I saw it yesterday, thought it was perfect and beautiful colour. It played on my mind for 24 hours (can't afford it, don't need it, fabulous colour, but it is spring.....) then went back to get it today. £149 reduced from £400! And it is still lovely.

DressDownFriday · 03/03/2012 21:00

I like both dresses.

I saw the apple one last week when I was in there - I wasn't too sure about the material and how it would wash. Looked as if would fade quickly.

talkingnonsense · 04/03/2012 09:15

Keep them. L a is usually good quality- I want their purple dragonfly dress!

Sneezeblossom · 04/03/2012 09:18

Laura ashley has lovely stuff atm. I wouldn't pay their prices for polyester though.

HandMini · 04/03/2012 09:24

Love the apple. Not so keen on the bird, but probably only because that kind of semi-sleeveless style makes my bust and arms look fat. Adorable profile pics....love the hohoho
