Have just forced myself to walk away from a gorgeous Monsoon faux fur gilet. It was lovely, looked fab on and was sooooo soft and warm. I wish I hadn't tried it on now but it looked lovely hanging there...

I've never worn faux fur before as I am completely against the fur industry. But is faux fur considered acceptable now, or is it still (generally) seen as a nod towards the acceptance of real fur? I say this because I've noticed lately that it's everywhere. If you see someone wearing it you assume it's fake and therefore ok? Or could I still be spat at in the street if I surcumb?

I'm a vegetarian (of 31 years duration) so I don't do fur, I buy fabric hand bags and purses and pleather shoes (M&S do nice ones)

But I wouldn't spit on someone for wearing fur, though I wouldn't do it myself.

I considered for over a year whether to buy a faux sheepskin jacket. Then I thought do it .It's nice, it looks sheepskin TBH. I don't aspire to want real skin, but I liked it IYSWIM.

I think most people would assume it's faux , I'd only think a jacket or evening style coat was real, but not a day time piece.

Well eating a quorn burger doesn't encourage the meat industry so get it if you like it.

Faux fur IMO looks just as cheap and nasty as real fur does.

I'm a hypocrite and for the 10yrs was a vegetarian wore leather and suede.

It's nothing really to do with morals for me, it's just that faux and real fur make anyone look a) lardy and b) like a slapper.

I love fake fur in all its guises.

Is it the brown double breasted one? Just asking as I have it and LOVE it. I did wonder how trendy it was when I looked at it but as soon as I put it on, I had to have it. So cosy and kind of comforting to wear! lol...I must be getting old.
Anyway, sounds lovely and I think there is so much faux in the shops now, people will assume it's not real.

I wear real fur and I have never been spat at in the street or had anything other than comments about how lovely my coats are, usually followed by the question "Is it real?".

Obviously I have no problem with fur, fake or otherwise. Wear it if you like it. Who cares what other people think?

dingdong the one I tried on was a light brown/grey fur with a kind of vague stripe or down the back - the fur was pretty realistic, which was why I hesitated.... I also saw a lovely brown one but that was suede with fur trim.

Wish I'd bought it now - I may have to go back tomorrow Smile

I think my one is the second one you're talking about badtasteflump. Go for it - think how lovely it will be to take it out next Winter when it's baltic out. :)
