So, what's an alternative to my usual 'casual/glam' look of black skinny trousers and a slightly dressy top??!!

What's the occasion?

merlin · 28/02/2012 21:35

It's a girly night - nothing fancy - probably dinner in a gastropub - so not full on dressy but I'm bored with black trousers and a top!!! Always feel too dressed up in a dress so bit stuck really. Any ideas greatly appreciated - thanks. Smile

Ah ok. I was going to suggest a dress but I know what you mean about feeling too dressed up. I do too unless its a full on dressy event.

dingdong3 · 28/02/2012 21:49

I think you have got to shed your dress fear - so many amazing dresses out there and you'll look fab. How about a jersey one, plain black and accessorise with great shoes so the attention's not about the dress.

If not, how about some coloured 7/8ths trousers with heels? Bit different. I'll go looking for some links if you like the sound of that?

merlin · 28/02/2012 22:05

Dingdong - yes I know have a dressy dress phobia!!!! Even the thought of a plain black one just seems to dressed up to me!!! But am open to ideas!

I have been looking at the coloured trousers - love them but not sure if they'll love me!! My legs aren't bad but black is always slimming! I'm 5'7", 14/16 and slightly lumpy round the middle!

If you have the time and inclination to find some suggestions for me that would be great - thank you!!!!

Oh and forgot to say - High Street - haven't got a rich girls budget!!!!

How about these in dark blue or dare I suggest the red?? :)

Or how about getting a black pair - safe territory - and buying a gorgeous pair of red/pink shoes?

Dress wise, how about something like this?

Seriously, once you wear a dress out a couple of times, you'll feel great. I never wore them until I hit my 30's because I was convinced my legs were rubbish and I didn't want to draw attention to myself but now I'm nearing 40, I'm wearing whatever I like and enjoying what I have before it all starts sagging. I'm kicking myself that I didn't do it sooner :)

dingdong3 · 28/02/2012 22:19

Lol...just read your high street comment...don't worry, I'm the high street queen. Never spend more than £30-40 on anything!

cybbo · 28/02/2012 22:20

A loose dress, short with thick tights and heels or ankle length leggings/footless tights

PerryCombover · 28/02/2012 22:23

Wot Cyb said

cybbo · 28/02/2012 22:24

along these lines

cybbo · 28/02/2012 22:25

tres jolie!!

merlin · 28/02/2012 22:25

Ooh DingDong - LOVE those H&M trousers - especially the price! Will go in there tomorrow and see if I can find them! The black dress is fab too, but just looks too dressy to me? Beautiful colour shoes but poss too high - I'd have to try them.

Thank you.

Thanks Cybbo - sorry the first one you linked to is not my cup of tea - second one quite nice though!

dingdong3 · 28/02/2012 22:37

Glad you liked them merlin. Next also have some lower coloured shoes -
these
or these

While you're in H&M, you could have a look at this or how about something like this with skinny jeans or black leggings?

Happy shopping - hope you get sorted :)

kissmyheathenass · 28/02/2012 22:42

Hi Merlin, can u guess who I am? I have changed my name.
Get down to CP - Wallis had some nice stuff in there today - tunic with thick tights and heels wld look great on you.

Are you really only 5'7? I thought you were taller than that, you give the illusion of being long legged.

merlin · 28/02/2012 22:43
